Self responsibility is better every time over the liberal notion that government will make everything better.

I do wish that public land in Alabama was as good as what I've seen in IL and KY. I do too buddy but in reality to achieve that we would probably need to cut rifle season to about 10 days or so and enforce a 1 buck limit for the season. And it still probably wouldn't be as good as it is up there. Yep. And a lot of mentalities would have to change. Which means, I'll keep going out of state in hopes of a monster.

And it still probably wouldn't be as good as it is up there. To start with you would also have to haul in several hundred thousand acres of Midwest soil and plant soybeans and corn on it. If you can't accomplish that nothing else you do will get the average scores per age class that is seen on those types of soil with all the food a deer could possibly eat growing on it.

I laugh every time I see things like this posted. The areas I've hunted didn't have any flat land, much less crops for miles. It's all timberland where I hunt.

Corn and soybeans will grow on a hill side, people are just broke or to tight to spend money to make it happen. Where you think terrace rows came from and the purpose they served?

If you do not believe that the soils in a region do not directly impact the average score of bucks in that region you are sadly mistaken. It is not just coincidence that the biggest bucks are killed in areas with the most fertile soil.

It's not all due to the soil. It's got some to due with the 1 buck restrictions and limited gun season.

Hell no everyone can choose to hunt how they want in this state as it is. And yes I've seen some stud deer I'd kill and have killed that wouldn't meet your standards. Yes I kill for the excitement and fun but my family eats 5-6 deer a year. I try and shoot older deer but if I haven't killed enough deer and it's at the end of the season I'll shoot a smaller buck for the meat. When hunting got commercialized as bad as it is now it pushed a lot of people out of the sport and it keeps getting worse and more people will fall away because of it.
Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

He asked a simple question, so I am gonna give a simple answer. NO I would not like to see it all 8 point. Now that wasn't so hard.. I will say that Mirage goes above and beyond limits that 99% of the people in Randolph and surrounding counties "including my self" doesn't do. I know for a fact he runs a trapping system, keeps out minerals, controls and improves habitat for the deer. I have seen a big increase in deer and rabbits on my farm, from what he has done on his place in the last two years. His property joins mine. There isn't a sole for I bet 20 miles, that plants corn and soybean for deer and has a heck of a yield like his place does. He spends as much if not more on Lime and fertilizer for the deer as I do on my whole farm every year. His improvements has helped me as much as it has him. I glad to have a neighbor like him, that is easy to get along with, does a lot for the deer, and has common sense when it comes to hunting. Not hijacking the thread just giving yall a little back ground on him in my opinion. Now if I could talk him into shooting lead tips, I could get somewhere..

Harvest restrictions will give you more older class bucks, but will not change the average scores of bucks in an age class. And average score for each age class will be higher in areas with more fertile soil that is just a fact. Been a lot of studies done that prove that. You can look at studies done in MS on comparing the delta to the rest of that state for one.

I'm also familiar with other areas of MS on the Eastern part of the state that were very good when I lived there. I'm telling you reclaimed strip mining land is not superior. I've railroaded this thread enough. If you'd like to reply, pm me.

I worked the election today and am late to the party. 8 point rule = STUPID IDEA , any real deer manager isn't gonna manage by number of points. If you are in the "if it's brown it's down" crowd well, it sure doesn't suit your needs. So who does it really help, a few misguided souls. If I see a 6YO 6 pointer I sure as hell don't want the state telling me I can't shoot him.

Antler restrictions are not the preferred way to manage deer, so...
