Same thing happened to me opening morning 2 years ago. While I was hanging upside down I promised myself I wouldn't climb a climber again. I have been true to my word so far. I'll probably be on the ground from now on too, unless I get a two man ladder stand.

Climbers are serious business no matter what type you use. We all need to slow down and use every precaution to keep safe. Thanks for reminding us and I'm glad you were able to share your experience with us.

A guy I used to work with had his climber slip with him a few years ago and he wasn't wearing a harness and his legs got caught up in the climber and he was hanging upside down,he had a cell phone in his shirt pocket and luckily it was buttoned and didn't fall out so he was able to call for help, long story short is he hung there for hours and they tried to help him by climbing up with other climbers but couldn't get to him, alabama power had to bring a boom truck in to get him out, very lucky to be alive after hanging that long,I might climb a time or two a year now,I'd just assume sit on the ground

Glad you are ok Clark. Fortunately you weren't to high off the ground.

Glad you are ok Clark. Fortunately you weren't to high off the ground. Yep! That's what saved me in the end. I was still high enough though that I couldn't touch the ground but low enough that I just slid to the ground when I got my feet loose. Just sharing so ya'l will avoid the mistakes I made. Keep that safety line tight enough that you can't wind up upside down!!!

1. Glad you are ok. 2. I've never owned any climber other than a Summit, and I'm really glad to have it. I'll NEVER own a climber that requires pins. I've read a lot of stories of people dropping pins, pins coming out (like yours R H), getting to the tree to climb and pin is missing, etc. 3. Thanks for sharing the story. Tomorrow morning at 5:30am when I'm getting ready to climb I'll take an extra look before going up.

Tomorrow morning at 5:30am when I'm getting ready to climb I'll take an extra look before going up. The main thing is to keep your safety line tight enough that you can't end up upside down with your feet in the foot climber straps. I always thought I might end up hanging from the harness and could possibly hug a tree to get down. With my feet in the straps upside down and my rope too far down, I didn't have the levrage to get up.

RH- glad you're OK!
What type stand was it so others can keep watch on equipment that could be at risk ?
