central ala,
Serious question...NOT TRING TO START A PEEING CONTEST!!! Hunters in SOME areas are saying deer #'s are down. From what I see, I agree. You have to take in account ALL deer mortalities: Coyotes, hunters, hit by a car, etc. The only one I see that can be truly controlled are hunters...for the most part. Now we have a split season in south Al. because hunters want to hunt the "rut". I understand that from a hunter standpoint. But that should decrease deer numbers in the same areas where hunters are seeing less. But if the numbers are truly lower, shouldn't the whole state be looking at reducing deer deaths by what can be controlled? Hunters have to look at the deer herd from a management standpoint to help numbers which includes trigger control on deer, NO trigger control on coyotes, habitat enhancement, etc. I don't see adjusting seasons allowing a chance to take more deer as a good management tool IF THE NUMBERS ARE TRULY LOW. THIS IS NOT A STRIKE AT DEER HUNTERS, ESPECIALLY IN S. ALABAMA, JUST WHATS BEST FOR THE HERD. FOR THE FUTURE EVERYONE SHOULD CONSIDER THAT.

We went from 2 does a day to 1. In theory this should help.

I don't think there's a statewide answer. All folks can do is kill less on the properties they hunt.

I don't think moving the season will necessarily change the number of deer killed. Most people are already killing what they want to kill anyway.

For example, when Georgia went from a limit of 5 deer to 12 deer, the number of deer killed didn't hardly change at all. Most people were happy to kill fewer than 5 deer already.

Also in areas where the population is to high to control killing one a day you could get on the DMAP program and they could allow you to kill more than that. Not sure how it works but I would think they could give you tags or something g and you could kill as many as needed.

If you're gonna be stupid you better be tough.

so if i aint got 500ac i can't kill more than one a day . that means i might have to get a crop damage permitt and let them root when i kill them at night in the summer .

Believe me, I'm not whining. I was fine with the 2 doe/day limit. We don't kill any does anymore, so it makes no difference to me.

So quit belly aching and get with neighbors and form a co-op and work toward a common goal. I'm going to guess that won't work for you or your neighbors one, but that's typical of most AL hunters.

We try and give you ways to work within the system but that isn't good enough confused

People gonna whine no matter what it is just human nature.

I learned a long time ago you cant make everybody happy so now I just do what makes me happy and don't worry about everybody else.

Unfortunately, the answer isn't a hunting reg. It's as follows (in this sequence)....

i did not have a problem but one was created for me . been good enough if they just left me alone . "I" was doing fine . they have a problem why are they not having to "work within the system" . i had not a problem why put the burden on me .

That's not even remotely funny, ethical, or legal. Things can turn VERY bad VERY quick with that stuff. I spent the night in the ER because of it. And no it was not mine.

But to answer the question, I've never seen more deer at any time in my life. I'm seeing plenty of deer on every place that I've hunted.

Matt, my neighbor died from that stuff, used it to poison neighborhood cats. Took a couple of weeks to die, hard.

I had a rough go with it too. I knew I was a dead man the minute it hit me. No reason I'm alive other than God decided I wasn't done. My dog on the other hand, lived about 60 seconds.

that is some bad stuff, sorry bout the dog.

I didn't know the neighbor was using that stuff, or killing cats. He killed my cat, in my yard a month before this happened. If I'd known it he wouldn't of died from the timic.....

Matt, how did you ingest Timic?
