He has hunted for years with his father and his dad is very particular about what is shot. I believe kids and new hunters need to pull the trigger on some animals in order to be ready when the time comes to take the trophy home. I heard it from an adult this past week as well. Describing details of a buck and then stating that they could not get a shot off. If you could tell it was a mature 8 with a kicker it should have a bullet hole in it! I was hell on the deer in the 80s-90s in south alabama when I was growing up and learned just how to make one mine. My dad let me kill all I wanted as long as I cleaned them, as they were seen as pest. To this day I can get on target and shoot a deer in a fraction of a second thanks to a ton of practice early in my hunting life.

Agree 100%. I'm amazed at the number of people, who can describe a deer's rack, but couldn't get a shot. A friend of mine told me one time, that he had seen a good 8 ptr that morning. He descibed a hole in the main beam. I asked, why didn't you shoot it? He said, i couldn't get a shot. Really? You could see that he had a hole in his main beam, but couldn't get a shot?. I've shot them in the neck and head before, because that was all i could see. Folks this ain't TV, we don't have mature bucks walk out into wide open spaces, on a regular basis.
