That's the .260 Remington and basically the 6.5 Creedmoor

Lol that didn't sell good so they named it .260 and I reckon it still don't sell good. Don't know why. Friend of mine who is really good on rifles says it is the most versatile and efficient cartridge ever made.

Heck, there's more calibers now than a feller can keep up with slap . All we really need is a thurdy - thurdy or a thurdy-06.

I have owned and shot both a 25/06 and a 270Win. I killed prolly 100 deer with that 25/06 and 100gr Hornady bombs. Switched to a 270Win and killed an 18 wheeler load.

IF all I did was greenfield hunt for does I'd use a 25/06 everytime. You have a still target and the time to pick yer shot.

Take em as they come, big deer, long range....I'll take my 270 and 130grNPs every single time.

I like em both.

I also shoot the 130s in a couple of different 270s and personally, do not find enough difference in the 2 setups to agree with the above statement.

If knowing a long range (for me >300yds) shot may present itself, I'll take a completely different setup...probably a 30 cal or mag load with longer range optics. JMO

The 264 Win mag had this area pretty much covered. Only problem was the barrel didn't last to many rounds before the throat and bore started to go, but it is one screaming caliber.

my 264 is 35 years old and still quite accurate, but then the only time I shoot it is to check the scope and shoot deer.

So true BhamFred, as long as your not out there on the wide open prairie picking off those dogs all day long, it does take some years to put 5-6 thousand rounds down the tube and lose the MOA. grin

A 25.06 vs a 270? Talk about splitting hairs!

It would perform exactly like any other caliber from 223 to 338 win mag....a dead deer would be the result. 99% of us cant shoot well enough to ever know the difference. Deer hunters get WAY too hung up on caliber, grain, ballistics, barrel type, brand, bullet construction, super duper mag or not, etc...etc..

I love the stories of "oh thats why I shoot a so and so with a XYZ bullet" There are literally 100's of variables as to why this deer did "exactly this" and another did something else. All thats required is to Hit em somewhere the size of a dinner plate (or larger) with a lead projectile and go pick them up. It aint rocket surgery or understanding women.

the 270 will get deeper in bad angle shots from what i've seen . BUT that may not mean much .

Once the bullet leaves the barrel.....just a projectile, no longer associated with a cartridge.

If you are like me, 99% of the deer I've killed or could kill are under 100 yards, most within 60.

At those distances pick one and kill the piss out of something.

That'd be bullet design itself or weight...
