Not sure how much you want to spend but for under $400 I love my Bushnell Elite. Its a fixed 10x40 and I think it was about $280.

I have two vortex diamondbacks now and probably won't go back to anything else if all goes well over time.

40 is gonna give you all you need with less weight to carry around.I got caught up in the 50 hype years ago also and finally got out of it.A scope is kinda like a cooter-bigger aint always better.

Let me elaborate on the original post so please forgive me for hijacking. If you had 550 what would you guys choose? Anyone have experience with vx-2 50mm? What are advantages of 50mm? I've heard mixed opinions on both. Leopoldo VX 3, 3 x 9 would make a great combination. I have a Leupold on every gun I own and see no need to change. For the money-and lifetime warranty-The Leupold scope cannot be beaten. I hope this helps.

I like 50 for finding deer walking/running through woods and light gathering. If you're primarlily hunting open fields I'd prob just go 40.

I have Leuopld VX3 3.5X10X50 with heavy duplex on all my long guns. That is what I have on my Browning X-bolt. Great scope.
