The great thing about social media is if you don't like something, don't let the door hit your butt on the way out. Ain't no tether lines keeping anyone around.
This isn't about social media, or which site is better or has more/less drama or yogapantbutts or whatever.
The absolute bottom line is that this site's name was appropriated and is being used to set up a FB page without permission, unless permission to do so was granted by the owners.

I joined the FB site this morning to see what all the fuss is about. No offense to whoever oversees it but I don't like it due to the way FB is set up. Too much crap to scroll through. At least on Aldeer.com I can see exactly what the topic is, at least before it gets derailed .

I prefer this site because I don't have to look at women in yoga pants unless I choose to click the thread. Carry on. Probably best you stay off the group text too. I had to ask TC for a group text divorce. It wasn't easy at first to try and move on in my life without pictures of his and Trox's morning bathroom visits and josh wanting to talk about penisis but I've managed. I sometimes wonder what it would be like to still be in that relationship and all the what ifs that go along with a divorce. I also wonder how are they coping without me. I'm thinking about counciling I just don't know.

Both have their place. I can't believe I am on a hunting forum with grown men (mighty warriors-fierce hunters) whining about a social media site. I love this place to gain info, meet people, read good stories, etc.,etc. and is set up so a simple man can find his way around. I have gained a lot of incite the last year on this site. But I can go to facebook to match faces and family with people on here without looking at the trash(soft porn) posted on this site and all the grammar police and all the trash talk and vulgar crap coming from newbies all the way to the mods. The two will work fine . And besides I can't get horns on facebook.

Just curious, is "Aldeer" protected by copyright? If so, could it be protected under those terms from FB groups?

I could be wrong but aldeer is not a copyrighted word. Rocket was only doing what alot of people would like to see and has asked for forgiveness.

I just don't like hunting 3 hours from home and my phone dying when I am 25 feet up a tree.

My brother and I own a duck hunting site. The same thing has happened with our site, not the facebook page, but the overall loss of interest in message forums and the limitations of their structure. We are small time, can't really afford to produce an app for the site (we do have a mobile compatible site) nor do we have the funds to copyright everything we have. It is just the evolution of technology, either you spend till you're broke or you get left behind a bit. We just try to hang in there for the ones that still want to enjoy the forum we created. New membership is about 50% lower in the past two yrs for our site. I still visit alder.com and will continue, have been a member since about 2002 or so.

Quite honestly if you can't figure out how to post a picture on a forum then you might not have any business on a computer. Then I have no business being on a computer. Thanks for letting me know.

I'll toss my $0.02 in.
It's really simple: this site will either catch up to the times and become a bit more user friendly, or it will fade away. The existence of a facebook page will not slow/speed that up.
I do like this site and I really like the way I can search through the topics. But... we can learn a lot from history and others mistakes. Go look at what has happened to ALDUCKS.

Most people do not understand that we (the aldeer owners) do not make a single penny from this place. In fact we do our best to not make any money so we do not have to mess with taxes, but Aldeer is a for profit business because there is no honest way to claim this is non-profit. However, to keep it up and running we have to pay server fees and do regular software upgrades and monitor the site constantly. The moderators do a heck of a great job keeping the place comfortable and within reasonable limitations. No porn, no spam, no annoying ads, etc...
Because Facebook is so easy to use I have seen it kill other websites but keep in mind FB is not secure and the owners of FB do not care about you. It is just a matter of time before there is a worldwide incident with FB coming and I strongly advise people to stay away from it. I do not have a FB page for this reason.
I am looking into to some upgrades for making picture posting and mobile use easier but I do not get paid for this and I have a regular life. So upgrades take time.
Now whoever is using Aldeer as a brand on facebook please take it down. Its our trademark. We own it.
