I'm 45, wife is 43. We have two sons ages 15 & 13. We also have two foster children (ages 3 & 1) and are going to adopt two sisters from foster care (ages 4 & 1). The way it is looking we may one day adopt all four.

We are smack dab back in the middle of babies again grin

53, wife 49. Daughter 20 son 15. Married 30 years.. 10 years before we had our daughter and then we wanted at least 4 years between where we would not have two in college at once. If I had it to do over I would prefer children in the first 2 years of marriage. Lifes good!

We find it hard to find friends in the same place in life that we are. And by hard, I mean impossible. All the couples around our age in church have little bitty kids, some are still having babies. It's just a grind to develop relationships, especially for my wife, because we have the freedom to do as we please, but everybody else is wholly consumed with their young kids. When we have the Sunday school over for parties, my wife will often sit in there with the guys because all the other women just want to talk about "baby stuff". Or they're so distracted by their kids that they never stay long, and they really don't engage in adult conversations while they are there.
For me, I want to go hunting or fishing, but all my friends want to bring their small children with them. And that's fine and good, but again it's tough to have adult relationships that aren't basically about other folks' kids. Or they can't or don't go hunting or fishing much anymore because they have small children.
Just feels like we're in an odd place in our lives, like we're oddballs. Just wondering if anybody else is in our shoes? Can't decide if we're too young or too old? LOL

I'm 38 the wife is 35 kids are 15 and 17

Me and my wife are 46 with a one year old granddaughter. We were in the same boat as you when your kids were younger. We had two kids by the time we were twenty. Most of our friends were older simply because you end up spending a lot of time with people that have kids the same age as you and we were younger than most when we had kids. But we did have one couple we were friends with that had kids when they were young like us.

I'm glad so many of y'all commented on this. It's important to me to clarify that we've been involved parents, I don't begrudge a friend for prioritizing time with his family, we just did it all so much in advance of most people these days. Heck, my grandmother had 5 boys by 23 (married when she was 15, and they stayed married for 60 years). I reckon the difference I see in my wife and I vs some our our peer couples is that when we married we didn't have this neatly organized plan/timeline for our lives. We loved each other, and just wanted to spend the rest of our lives together, really without any concern for when/where/how. We married in May and found out in July we were expecting, and she was born in February (a little early). So many of our friends seemed to have this sterile plan to "wait X years", or "finish college", or whatever "it" was. I don't idolize my children, they come 2nd to their mother! (I hate to hear people say "we're staying together for the kids".) But I love those crazy gals and we've had 19 and 16 awesome years so far! I guess I just needed to vent, it just seems so easy for the rest of our friends who's lives mirror each others'. While many of our friends are at the ballpark with each other all week, my kids are working and doing college, so I'm selling insurance and my wife is doing whatever wives do! LOL

On the bright side, we'll be empty nesters in our late 40's, so y'all can hate on that!! laugh

Hey Daniel, you should come hunting with me one day on one of her dads farms. He's got one down in the blackbelt, one in Paintrock Valley, and is in the process of buying one in Pike County, IL.

I've been on BOTH sides of this. I'm 45 and wife is 41.

We have two small kids (boy 9 and girl 4) together.

I ALSO have a 22 yr old son (Gunslinger 251) with my previous wife.

I have been the YOUNGEST parents at some stuff AND the OLDEST at some now. It is kind of weird.

When my oldest played football, one of the mothers of a player on his team told me a story. They had three kids together WAY apart in age.

Said she was the only parent she knew who had bought DIAPERS and a PROM DRESS on the same shopping trip.

Wow. You know what's causing that, right?

JUST kidding. Congrats on a big family. I am in awe of your management skills and (apparently limitless) patience. My 4yo little girl will put me in my grave by herself, probably when she starts dating. Can't even IMAGINE that. Lol
