This thread is hilarious, never knew there wee so many husbands that thought it was their duty to teach their wives how to eat a steak. The funny thing is that they expect them to eat it like they like it. I am glad I have a wife that stands up for herself and would tell me to take a hike if I pulled that kind of crap. FYI, I don't care how mine eats her steak, long as she pays for mine.

Somebody will be wanting to whoop ass here shortly. Wait and see Haha no kidding. I don't know who's more up set about this. The guys who spend $50 on a steak for it to be cooked well done and sauce dumped on it, or the guys who think that the other half are trying to dictate how the world around them (steak nazis) eat steak.

Yep,I don't give two chits how my wife wants her steak or how you eat your steak, what gets me is these guys that act like you ain't a man if you don't eat it rare and without steak sauce Well.. It's because you ain't a man if you don't eat it rare without Sauce.

My wife and kids all eat their steaks medium rare....the way the are suppose to be cooked, and NO sauce of any kind.
Eat it however you choose but over cooking and putting any sort of sauce on them is a sure way to ruin the flavor of the beef.

Good Lord, some of you read WAAAAAY too much into things... I didn't see anyone talk about beating their wife into submission over a steak. EXACTLY! My wife likes hers burnt and I just shake my head. I don't threaten her in to liking what I like. I think most of the people that like a well done steak have a mental issue with "under cooked" meat. I doubt their decision has anything to do with taste.

Me and the wife had a date night tonight and dropped the young-un off at my parents house and went to a decent steakhouse. Does y'all's wife or lady dump A1 or any other steak sauce on every steak they eat weather it be a cheap or expensive steak? It drives me nuts. I ask her if it's necessary everytime she does it and she tells me to shut up that she likes A1. To me, I better not even have to think about using any kind of sauce while eating a steak. Pet peeve of anyone else or just me? Yep. Drives me crazy but I don't say nothing. She's grown and can eat the way she likes. Man I cook some cooked to perfection filets or ribeyes and she cuts 1 oz of meat off of it and slathers it in cheap steak sauce. The rest she gave to the dogs because it's "fatty meat". Also if we are together shopping she always picks out a tough sirloin and wants it cooked until it could be used as shoe leather because "it has less fat in it". I try to tell her the fat gives if flavor and just don't eat the actual fat. Of course she doesn't listen.

I like my steak medium rare, the wife likes hers medium, and my daughter likes hers medium rare or medium. I prefer to grill my own steaks as it's rare that I've ever gotten one like I've ordered it when we eat out (and I never send food back). The only time I use any kind of sauce is when I get a bad steak (and that's pretty common eating out). When I grill one at home, I put salt, pepper and a little garlic powder on it and then baste it with a little Worcestershire sauce and butter mix. With prices like they are, we do not have steak very often. Now, we mostly have it on one of our birthdays or some other special occasion.

she tells me to shut up that she likes A1 Good for her. Nitpicking about something like A1 on a steak ain't worth the breath. At least she's going out to eat with you.

Some of y'all are acting like we beat our wife's for this. I showed her this thread and she thinks it's hilarious how some of you guys acts about this. I guess next time I'll record the conversation over dinner and you could see how laughingly "tongue in cheek" the conversation goes.

I didn't say you were beating her or anything of the sort, so damn sure don't lump me in that group.
If it's "laughingly tongue in cheek" then it shouldn't "drive you nuts" or be a "pet peeve" as you stated in the original post. Right?
Steak's better with ketchup anyway.

I like to lightly brown(seer) my steak in an iron skillet then put a thin layer of blackberry pepper jelly on it and stick it in a preheated oven for a few minutes till medium done. Delicious. No sauce needed by the way. A-1 on my fries or loaded potato.

Damn, You sure are persistent. Ok, let me clarify for YOU. I wasn't clear and now realize the keyboard warriors such as your self will not let a single post go. You clearly are the type to critique every little thing that is posted; when and if you see opportunity. I could care less what my wife or anyone orders at any restaurant off of any menu. I however would think it would be reasonable that if we (me and my wife's money) spend $50+ on a steak at a nice restaurant that it be tried the way it is before we go through what is fixing to un fold. I find it humorous (instead of drives me nuts) when we do go out and eat and she or someone with me ask for sauce, the server looks at us as if something isn't cooked correct or lacks flavor. I explain " no everything is fine, they like sauce more then the meat it's self." So then the little waitress who is covering 5-10 tables has to go back to the stock room and dig through the farthest away corner that is piled with boxes to find steak sauce that is hopefully still in date. She proceeds to the closet sink to scrub the dust off, dry the bottle, shake it because the liquid has separated and bring it out to our table. While this unfortunate series of events is taking place, at the other tables that she is covering, people are getting ill with the service and each other, thirsty, waiting on checks, need appitizers etc. it clearly effects the waitresses tip from those tables. Keep in mind she only makes $3 an hr plus tips. (We won't get all the way into how she depends on the tip money for family or school) So, now here we are ruining this poor girls night for asking for a bottle of a1 steak sauce and holding her back from her potential of earning a pocket full of tips that's is much needed for her to achieve her "American Dream" of paying her way through school to be a nurse. This is usually how the conversation goes with my wife. She cracks up laughing when I get into the spill of how A1 steaksauce kills the American dream. Oh, and trust me, I wish she agreed with you and liked ketchup better. It's usually already on the table. Tongue in cheek regards,
