It's gonna be lots of fun dragging my 170" buck and a 130 lb doe in tandem by myself down that mountain next time ... If you kill him, call me and I'll come help you get him out.

I was snug as a bug the whole time. Man I was miserable. I got a summertime tent, the kind with an open mesh top and a fly over it. Air coes thru the bottom then ventilated out the top ... Carrying away any heat generated by my buddy heater. I've gotta figure out something different for next hunt

It's good to be home ... and looking forward to going back next hunt. I didn't score but I did have a nice 8 point cruise by. I had a bunch of does go by me and could easily have taken a my share but held off hoping for that big buck. Man the does up there are the size of donkeys. It's gonna be lots of fun dragging my 170" buck and a 130 lb doe in tandem by myself down that mountain next time ... We could have used You today Paul. I carried a buddy up there to one of my old haunts today and he smoked him a big bodied 8 pointer(well, 8 point if you count the 1 broken tine). He shot it at about 8:30am this morning and we made it back to the truck with it about 3:00pm.(I will NOT go back into that area without my 4 wheeler from now on.) The direction of the truck was down hill and about a mile along side the mountain. But all of the rocks, boulders, and ravines made walking a chore. Dragging wasn't merely a chore, it was down right WORK. My hunting buddy has had a couple of heart attacks and hasn't been able to hunt like we used to, and it has been several years since he has got to harvest a decent buck, so this was a blessing for him. It was for me too, although I didn't see a hair. You keep at it and You'll get your big one.

Thanks for the encouragement He doesn't need too. I told him that if he had a chance at one, we would get it out somehow. I really didn't remember getting one out of that area being that rough since it's slightly down hill. I haven't hunted that area since the 1990's though, when it was B&G Hunting club. I thank You for the offer, but I would have hated to disturb your hunt. Like my buddy, I figure that You are due for one soon too. I get as much of a kick out of seeing a friend get a goodun as I do hunting myself, so You can add my name to the list to help get yours out also when the time comes.

Most likely I'm gonna have to drag em down by myself anyway as there ain't much cell reception there if any. Saturday I never got signal. It's too long, steep and rough to leave an animal up there then come down for help and go back.

I felt like it was eerily quiet in the woods Friday & Saturday. We didn't see anything. Chipmunks & Squirrels were moving, but squirrels weren't barking that much. We were just surprised that nothing was moving. We hunted Bear Den Point Friday afternoon and Tate Spring Road Saturday morning and Poplar Spring Rd Saturday afternoon and saw zero deer moving. We only saw two four-wheelers with deer on them and very few shots so it wasn't just us.
Is the rut over at Skyline? Or is it still gearing up. Is the moon throwing things off? Very bummed about this weekend.

They haven't even put a dent in the white oaks from what I've seen.

I shot an 8 point the day after Christmas, and saw some does around 9am and then shot my buck at 10:30 and he was not chasing at all. He was by himself and pick through hardwoods eating acorns. I also cannot believe the amount of acorns STILL on the ground. We had areas where it was like walking on marbles. They had not rotted yet and I can see why the deer aren't hitting the green fields.

The place has been managed like Barbour the last 6 yrs with liberal doe harvest and it's catching up IMO.
