Yep and a lack of deer to eat them. The place has been managed like Barbour the last 6 yrs with liberal doe harvest and it's catching up IMO. Can you elaborate? What do you mean?

I have no idea what they are thinking with all of that crap. I don't go to the WMA anything like I used to, but when I do....it amazes me how little overall deer sign there is on Zone B relative to back in the day.

Is the rut over at Skyline? Or is it still gearing up Don't quote me on this but I'm thinking its just starting up Saw a good bit of rut activity where we were at this weekend during the Skyline hunt. One fellow hunter that was camping with us shot what he thought was a 10+pt chasing does Friday afternoon. Unfortunately after 2 days of following several hundreds of blood, he wasn't able to track him down and find him. My hunting partner shot a bruiser 11 pt. Saturday morning. He said he was grunting up a storm and came on a b-line to his doe bleat can call. As for me, I saw a spike running 3 does. All the other bucks I saw were alone just cruising through the woods and small. I'm hoping that a lot of this rut activity will be going on during the next hunt. I sure am looking forward to it.

I remember about 3 years ago when at lunchtime on low gap road you would see a line of trucks with about 2 does each on them. Killing that many does didnt help. I wish they would only have 2 gun doe hunts at the beginning of gun season then make it bucks only. i would let youth hunters kill a doe all season long though.

With all the hunting activity at Skyline, how important is to get away from the easy access areas? Saturday morning I was on Money Hollow Rd and you could hear all the traffic on Tate Cove Rd. I'm thinking I may need to get deeper away from high traffic. I thought about going up into TN and coming in on Cave Springs Rd but I have never hunted up there and would basically be walking into where I thought might be a good spot.

Its a double edged sword ... Get to far away and there ain't enough hunters to get the deer moving. Get too close and 30 hunters are firing at the same deer.
I thought I would go in Cave Spring Rd and hike down but then heard horror stories of it taking 4 men, a truck with a winch, and 300 ft of cable to get a deer back out the top.

I wouldn't do it by myself, but with a friend I would think we could do it. But I haven't been there so I don't really know how aggressive the terrain actually is. I don't think I would go all the way down to the bottom.

Our present area manager came from Barbour wma a few years ago. That's when all the doe gun hunts began. That many people killing 2 does a day hurts a place like that. I can see it down at Barbour with a deer density 3x higher at least. I wish the only does killed would be bow or PW like it used to be.

Well, I am holding out hope there will still be some rut activity in two weeks. I want to at least see something moving.

So did anyone kill anything. Sorry I missed you the second go around BBB. My back finally gave out, I was down for several hours Nope we all struck out. Michael passes on several nannys and I only saw one deer. He looked like a good buck, but was across a hollar and getting some gone.
