Looking for information (good or bad) regarding hunting leases thru Weyerhaeuser or Rayonier. I have never lease from either but they both have properties available that I might be interested in.

I've had Weyerhauser land in Butler County for 8 years. You have a web site to log into to take care of everything. Its pretty simple and the rate is $6.64 per acre and includes insurance. I've never had a problem with them since having the lease. The lease is for 3 years with small step increases each year.

I was part of a Rayonier lease in the past, they jumped it up about 50% in one year,(but so did just about everyone else) from 5 something to close to 8 if I remember correctly. Other than complaining about them clearcutting some beautiful wood, which is what they are in business to do, I never heard anything negative about them.

Ha! That's a deal!!!
I got a quote from Westervelt for 1100 acres 2 weeks ago on a Marengo tract.
A real bargain at $24,000 per year shocked
When can I sign the papers??? grin

I've had a 737 acre lease with westervelt for 6 years now and just signed the renewal lease for the next 3 years. My payments tend to increase about 3% to 4% each year which seems fair. i have had sections thinned twice and they have worked around hunting season each time ( which they don't have to do and it says so in the lease)After some of the horror stories i have heard about paper company leases, i have been very pleased with westervelt and their employees.

I am familiar with the piece of property you are talking about. It is part of what was a larger tract 25 years ago and for some reason Westervelt divided it a few years back. The original tract (close to 3,000 acres) was called the BOGUE Hunting Club. Gulf States told us way back then that they considered that the best piece of property they had in Alabama other than the property they had set aside for their Westervelt Lodge. Based on the pricing, they must still have that opinion.

That's it. It forms the Eastern border of my current lease. It's a good piece of ground no doubt, and it's only been hunted by corporate for the last several years, but not for what they are asking. You can lease ground in the mid west for that and have a real shot at a truly impressive deer.

I am pretty sure I have hunted the property you are talking about the last few years. If so it is good land.

I am sure you mean $4k per person, not $4k for the entire lease.
