With the season only a couple months away a lot of folks seem to be looking for setups.

It would nice to see what folks are shooting and results. If you feel inclined how about putting up your combo and pic of your pattern for all the people looking.

870 compact in 20ga. 21" barrel, RSF .572 choke and 1 5/8 oz if tss 8's. This is my best 40 yd pattern so far. However this pattern is pre-polishing the barrel. I'll get the trap out and shoot a few more once it warms a little.



Here it is at 20yds. Just for giggles and why not? . 327 in the 10".

3toe, you have a lot of wiggle room with that 20 yd pattern. And that 40 yd is awesome with the 8s.

I see dead turkeys, great patterns guys.

Has anyone had any experience with a remington 887 with a indian creek in it? I have shot a franchi for years turkey hunting with an indian creek choke. Just wondering id the pattern out of the 887 with 3.5 mag blends would be any deadlier? Or to see some patterns thrown from one. Thanks.

I killed several birds with my 887. I used the factory full and 3.5" mag blends, and got 200ish in a 10" circle at 40.

Mossberg 500 with 24" barrel, think a tru glo choke, 3" mag blends, is bringing 220-240 in a 10" circle at 35 yards. All I need.

crenshaw, i passed a couple opportunities last season at 53-58 yards with this same set up. just wasnt totally confident in TSS. then a buddy and i got a double, i shot mine at 30yds and his ran off. by the time he got on it and shot, the tom was 78 yds. killed him stone dead. i watched him flop with his head laying on the ground with a broken neck. he was shooting the same load i shoot.

tss is amazing

Yep it's bad news on a turkey. I was a little skeptical but pushed the range on my 20 gauge last year one time with very good results. I really don't know why any serious turkey hunter wouldnt shoot TSS. The gap to second best is huge.

What kind of red dot do you have on the Benelli?

EoTech. Head doesn't have to be on the stock, and one can see the image with head to side of stock. Where the center of the image is, is where the shot goes.

257, what choke is that? Got an affinity I'm setting up an have been wondering what to go with. Have u shot tss out of it?

It's the Trulock heavyweight 7 choke. I think I'll just use the heavyweights as that pattern is solid enough for me.

Remington 1100 LT 20 ga. 2 3/4" gun shooting a 3" # 9 TSS at a taped 40 yards with a sumtoy choke and 21" chopped down, rethread barrel. 461/194 for a grand total of 655 in the 20". That came out to .966% of all the pellets in the load.

Now thats a bad arse 40yd pattern right there.

How did you get a 3" shell into a 2 3/4" chamber?

All I can figure is the remmy only made one frame and sold them with diff barrels. 3toe has seen me shoot it more than once. It feeds but the hull comes out with about a 30 degree angle on the star crimp on 1/4 of it.

If any of you shoot a Condor 20 guage, what kind of turkey choke do you use and will two chokes fit without a problem? Thinking of getting one for a TSS project gun.

I have a buddy running a condor and no problem with 2 chokes. Running pretty much an ex-full and and imp cyl in it. Up close and a reach out and touch ya gun. Go to gobbler nation and look at the pic threads. They make this lab rat look like a student

a 3" shell will chamber in a 2 3/4 chamber easily because of the slanted front of the chamber area to make room for the unfolded crimp after firing. A 3" shell will not have than room for the fired crimp and usually ups pressures.

I think I recall the LT 20 frame is not the same as the regular frame, either way the barrel is cut for 2 3/4 " shells.

You can have to barrel rechambered for 3" shells easily

This stuff is nasty. I finally got a chance to do some testing this weeked and believe I'm ready for season now.

All 3 are from an original SBE AT 40 yards through a SumToy choke.

Got the new 870 remington wingmaster in 12'' for bday. Does anybody know if the turkey choke that comes with it from the factory is worth leaving in?

Franchi 912 (uses Benelli Mobil chokes) 3.5 12ga at 30yds.

Patterned 6 rounds today (3 brands with 2 chokes). First choke was an Undertaker .665; second was a Truglo .649. Didn't see a considerable difference between the two. The shells were Federal Heavyweights #7, Federal 3rd Degree 567 and Winchester Longbeards in #5.

The good...really impressed with the Winchester Longbeards for the price.
The bad...really UNimpressed with the Federal 3rd Degree (not pictured but results tallied) which are the same price for 5 as compared to 10 Longbeards.

Barrel was cleaned and polished after each shot. Initially drew a 10" circle then redrew around the best group. Inner circle is 4".



It's hard to beat Heavyweights off the shelf. I've found this true in the last 3 gun/choke combos I've patterned. I'll have it leading off with the LB #5 right behind on 3/15.

I shot the nitro turkey loads with the Remington super full, and the XRs with the Carlson choke. I did not switch the loads and chokes.

I think there was a bit of bleed over from the nitro to the XR target on the 45 yard shot, but the results are pretty obvious, none the less. I do want to shoot these again at 25 yards to see if the patterns are too tight on the XR combo, but after this I am pretty comfortable with the round and choke combo.

Im curious what you meant by that? Im not following.

I think the pattern was so large for the nitro at 45 yards, some of the pellets ended up on the left target (I shot the left first [XR] and the right second [Nitro]). I should have taken the pic after each shot versus hanging the two targets and shooting both.

I'm getting 330ish at 50 with the 2.5 oz load in the 10 gauge with 8.5s. I never wanted to shoot 7s though.

I know it's not needed to kill them but, the 7's from hal are super round like a bearing tolerance.

While all the loads were relatively close in their 10 inch circle numbers, the #7's had the most even pattern outside the 10 ring as well as in. I wasn't very impressed with the 6's, several holes in the pattern. The magblends did well and held tightest pattern of the three. I'd feel pretty comfortable with any of these loads out to 50 yards.

I shot my Remington this past week and noticed that it was shooting a foot to foot and half low with my new Indian Creek choke with Nitros 4,5x7 load. See first pic at 25 yds.


I took my gun up to Walter Craigs yesterday and they convinced me to try a Jelly Head choke.660 and Long Beards No. 6 shot.


Apparently, the choke was flawed to some extent. I will be using the Jelly Head and the Longbeards this season.

I'm new and not from Alabama. Please don't hold that against me. I found lots if info here that I enjoyed, so I thought I'd join up. I'll be loading TSS by next year but for now I'm throwing lead. Seen a bunch of patterns hear with #6 and smaller shot but nothing bigger. I thought you all might like this one. Not much room for error but I like em tight.

Aucoonhunter and I just finished up patterning our 20 gauges. We used a new to us shot trap and out of 5 shots retained 95% of our TSS. Only lost 120 pellets and it's probably stuck in the carpet. I'll let him add his picture and results but they were both great.

30 and 40 and the target is absolutely eat up. at 40 I noticed the load was just a little lower than at 30 so I held a couple inches above the bullseye at 50 and it ate it up. I don't care how many pellets are in that 10 inch circle I just know he's dead as a hammer
