I've heard this too. Head a story of a cop on a traffic stop who was shot by the driver. Then bullet hit him in the side in teh gap between his vest panels. The bullet allegedly hit a rib on the opposite side, ricocheted of and hit his aorta and he bled out in seconds. I have no way to verify that story though.
