we gain nothing by denying people the ability to marry.
But we lose a hell of a lot by sanctioning it. What exactly do we lose? They will be living the exact same life after they receive their "civil union" or marriage or whatever other word you would prefer certificate that they are now except they would be granted certain rights and benefits that they do not have now. Except for the ring on my finger and me calling my wife my wife you would not know if we were married or just dating and whether we are married or just dating or living together doesn't change a thing in your world and you probably don't care either way, so what is the difference?
