I live in a house that was built in the early 1900's.. We have two gas heaters on the wall and some electric style amish heaters.. We stay just fine, go through about 250 gallon of propane a year. BUT, my wife and kids wears clothes in the house, instead of shorts and t shirts.. makes a big difference. Like right now, it is 28 outside and 68 inside.. thats with everything on low, and we are fine.. Clothes are cheaper than anything We keep our house 67-68 in the winter and summer. Most people freeze when the come over. Our basement, in the winter, is usually 2 degrees cooler in the winter. My office is down there so I'm used to being a little cooler.

I gotta Train Heat Pump and it heats my upstairs and basement fine. We run it at 72 year round. I switched from Propane (no gas out here in Country), and my bill is half of what it was with LP Gas. We use the LP Gas only for fireplace and that's it. I have owned this unit for 12 years without any problems so far. heat pump technology has come a long way. The new, high efficiency units do an excellent job. My son is in the HVAC business and installed my unit a few years ago. I had lp gas heat and it was about to break me. My unit has a variable speed fan and high SEER. Can't really tell the difference between gas heat and heat pump except my nose and sinuses don't stay dried out all winter and the fact that I'm saving a whole lot of money!
