Ain't no way I would do that. Probably wouldn't even work on Alabama birds.
Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.

Y'all can HAVE IT; I've seen my poor ole FeatherFlex jake get flogged & pecked & tortured so many times that I don't want to run the risk of a bird sashaying up the barrel & doing a number on top of my HEAD & giving me a head-ache!! I'll pass... But, I do have a buddy that's HUNG UP on that Chicken-on-a-Stick thing... I told him I eat my chickens SMOKED & deep-fried, not on a stick!! BGD

I've seen it done on Rio's and work. Seen it work on an Eastern with 2 hen decoys. There is no way in HEdouble hockey sticks I would even think about doing that ANYWHERE in Alabama, private or public land, unless I had a kevlar body cast on. I got into a pretty spirited debate with a guy from Old Gobbler last year about this very topic. He pretty much had the same opinion as you and didn't mind speaking out on the topic. I will tell you the same thing I told him...... The practice is not new, it's been around for a long, long time. Nowhere and never in the United States is there a documented case of someone being shot while fanning. Every single year there are documented cases of hunters being shot or killed while sitting against a tree calling. That my friend is FACT! I will dig up that thread when I get a little time. The guy I was debating with went right into defense mode and then started the insulting and name calling. I pretty much just quit with the debate then..... No matter how much you reason with people, sometimes you find an idiot that just can't be reasoned with.

I ain't stupid enough to grab an unrestrained grown gobbler. Pretty sure it would make a great video of you getting yer ass whipped good and proper. The one I hand killed was tangled up in honeysuckle vines and unable to flog and spur my ass.
BC, my brother has been crawling gobblers in south Fl for years w/o a decoy. He says they will walk up to you or just stand there and watch you belly slide up to very close range. Not me. Have you seen the size of those Eastern Diamondback Rattlers they have down there????
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I sure have. I've used to have an Eastern skin about 82 inches long. Not something I would want to crawl up on. I've never fanned one or even tried it, but I think it would be cool to try at least once. I might give it a shot in Nebraska this season.

Not shot I'm doing that any where. Private land, public, the middle of a 100acre pasture. I value my life So you are afraid of something that has a 0% accident rate?

I'm not scared of the turkey. Im afraid of getting shot by some yahoo that cant tell its a decoy. Ok..... but it's never happened. The practice has been around for 30+ years and nobody has ever been shot doing it. I'm sure one of these days it might happen, but it happens multiple times a season with people just sitting up against a tree calling. Nobody on here is afraid to do that. Here's my debate with the guy if anyone cares to read it. Click Linky

The click linky didn't work for me... Listed the full URL above... I remember this thread last year on OG; seems like I got into some "tussles" with a few folks who are no longer on there, as well... But, ya, "fanning" is not new, and I guess if somebody wants to do it, more power to 'em... BGD
