Read some stuff on OG recently about his presses; was wondering if anybody 'round these parts have used his stuff, recommend it or not, etc.

I've gotta say, I've got a "passing fancy" to make my own mouth calls, so ... shelling out some major $$$ for a high-end press is a *little* bit of a stretch, but... Maybe that's absolutely required when making 'em...

Let me know what you'd recommend for somebody just startin' out, making mouth calls...

Curious to know what Billy Yargus is using right here to make his calls... Again, I'm a total NEWBIE to this, so... Apologize up front for the dumb/stupid Q's about this... I guess I should have said JIG & PRESS...

Stony (wareagle22) has one if I'm not mistaken...
You can make your own jig for much cheaper. Me, Yekrut, N2, and others have...

I was wondering about a DIY jig; got some links to share/pass along? Also sources for the materials -- latex, proph, frames, etc. would be greatly appreciated... As with anything I'm trying for the first time, I'd like to try it on a "budget" first...

Thx guys!

10-4; awesome man... Let me know about a website/source for DIY jigs; that sounds like the best place for me to start... My brother & another buddy of mine are real handy with stuff like that...

Thx!!

I looked for several months for a feather ridge press. Finally found one that a guy was wanting to get rid of. I love mine and probably won't ever part with it. A friend of mine has that clamp press like Billy Yargus uses in a youtube video. Both get the job done just fine. Just a caution on getting your tape from Pioneer. It's quality has gone down hill.

Thad makes a small press just like you are looking for. He made it for folks like you that only want to make calls for themselves. It's a lot less expensive than his production presses. I've read some great reviews on it. I have his press with dial indicator and a tape cutter and LOVE it. It's really easy to duplicate a call to keep the consistency with the calls. A lot of guys have built their own presses too. You can probably google "homemade call press" and find what you are wanting. You can get everything you need from Pioneer.

Ok after some searching around I found an elk hunting site that had a home-made jig & then another site that showed someone just ... stretching them by hand, it appeared... I'm thinking of making one of the home-made jigs, similar to the one on the elk hunting site (unless I stumble onto a killer deal on one of Thad's "entry-level" jigs that wareagle22 mentioned above; no doubt, they're nice)... I guess my stretches will be somewhat inaccurate & inconsistent, but ... The latex, proph, and frames are dirt cheap, it appears...

Given Pioneer's "quality" problems that you guys are mentioning, has anyone tried ordering supplies from Brookside?

Unless your wanting to make 100's of calls you don't need a jig or press. Ive built calls for 10 years and I actually just use a mouse pad.

I've made thousands with this little stretcher.

And you can cut the tape with this punch
