b.s. putting the sneak on a bird is easy peasy as long as you can lay eyes on the bird. Now if we are talking about doing it in thick woods, well that is a bit harder, epsecially flat land.

I wouldn't mind feeling the rush of having a struttin bird running up to you to whoop your arse, and then wreck his world with a #5 to his face... I think it would be great, nothing like being aggressive and sneakin on a turkey and closing the deal!

Your saying crawling on your knee's in rocky terrain, is easier than propping up against a tree and calling a bird to you, ok. I've seen 12 y/o kids call in longbeards. Some birds are a lot harder to call in.

The spinning wing took the art form out of working ducks with a call and opened the flood gates of morons . Just like this. This will open the door for every tom dick and harry to go to walmart buy a box call and a scoot and shoot and start crawling pastures. Can we not have one sport that doesn't get away from its roots ? But hey if you feel this cruch is what you need by all means go ahead and lean on it.

but you're not bashing, right? rolleyes

so you wanna stay with the "roots" of hunting turkeys. Where do you draw the line? Shotguns are ok but only if they're single shot? No guns at all, only bows? No compounds, gotta use a long bow like the Indians did? oops, bows are too much of a crutch, gotta grab one and strangle it to death like Troy (I think) posted about.

For what its worth I have zero interest in fanning a bird, as I've stated multiple times. And despite what BC said, I'd be leery of doing it non public land. But to call it immoral is asinine.

yes, unless you hunt some awesome land that has endless amounts of birds all over you...... If I can lay eyes on a bird, I can kill it about 99% of the time. Maybe you should be called the turkey master? Because they definately aren't that easy for me to call in most of the time.

I don't really like the idea of using decoys or a fan to kill birds. They are a crutch. Now, that isn't to say I would never use one. Specifically, if I'm out of state and have a limited amount of time to kill out.

I'm not bashing people who use them all the time, I really don't care what you use. But at the end of the day, someone who relies on decoys or a fan, isn't going to become near as good of a hunter.

The thing I like better about fans than spinners, is atleast the people using fans aren't generally directly competing with me for the same birds.

Are we debating whether it's challenging/not challenging or safe/not safe to crawl behind a full strut decoy? I thought we were debating safety. Carry on.

Now don't get me wrong. I've never fanned one but common sense would tell me not to do it on public land in Alabama. Just because there has never been a documented case stating the root cause was someone fanning, doesn't mean there won't ever be one. I definitely don't want to be the first.

If the opportunity arises in Nebraska this season I might try it just for kicks. I sure hope Im not accused of being immoral though.

Initially we were debating safety. Then a couple of guys started a side discussion on if its challenging, and one dude thinks you're an immoral heathen if you use them.

You are now fully up to speed

Ok maybe imoral was the wrong word. How about pride? Ill fix it. So turkey hunters dont have pride anymore. Yeah that has alot better ring.

Pride is A sense of one's own proper dignity or value; self-respect. Pleasure or satisfaction taken in an achievement, possession, or association. So if I use any other means other than what you want me to use, I lose my self-respect... So try again.....

It's not a Passion, it's an Obsession. That's what I tell my wife, but she promptly informs it's a disease to which is incurable.

Thank you

If you have a difference of opinion just state it as such.
Dont try to bash and demoralize the people that dont agree. Pride and morals go much more into a man than turkey hunting.

Next thing your going to say is we cant shoot them off the limb. Geez

What? Now that is sorry as can be, shooting a bird before it can straighten his legs. That's just totally unethical. Where is your pride young man.

Was I immoral last year? I was slipping into a big hardwood bottom where I knew some turkeys were roosted just as sky was lightening up. I could here a gobbler gobbling and I was trying to get just a little closer when I busted 1 off the roost I could see it fly about a hundred yards and light in another tree. I quickly sat down against a big log and was scootching around a little to get my cushion under me and get my calls etc. ready when a big gobbler pitches out and flies right to me, lands about 12 steps from me. I probably not being of good moral character blasted him. I'm assuming since I never even called to him this was an underhanded trick.
