I can relate to your frustration. I've been in clubs like that before and couldnt stand it. I've been in the same club now going on 6yrs. We have a little drama but noting major. Most of the drama is about work. The guys who seem to hunt the most can never make it to work days. And when they do come to do work its trimming up their personal stands and not club stands even though they hunt club stands as much as the next guy. If a kid kills a small buck you will rarely hear anyone mention it. If an adult kills ones their may be some behind the scenes discussion and he will have a penalty to pay but that is all on him. You know the rules when you join.

As far as quitting hunting, I hope that day never comes in my world. I dont even have to kill something to enjoy myself. I can get more living sitting in a stand for 6hrs than I can in a 5 day work week. To me its all about enjoying Gods Beautiful creation and the critters that he created. Yes I like killing big bucks but give me a 100lb pound floppy eared nanny and I'm happy. This was my first year in 7yrs that I didnt kill a buck. But overhaul I feel I had a great season. Seen lots of deer and lots of buck. Just nothing that would improve what I already have. Like I said, I know your frustration but I hope I never lose the urge to go sit in a deer stand or sit on a ridge in the spring and listen to the woods come alive hoping to hear a turkey gobble. Good luck man but like others have said, go get your own place.

If your decoy doesnt have holes in it, your not letting him get close enough... J.H.

I'm 35 years old and have never been in a club. Been hunting since I was 5. We always leased land. In 1999 my dad had a bad car wreck and lost hearing in one ear and damaged hearing in another. He hunted a couple years after that just to take my little brother but stopped shortly after and started fishing year around. Me and a couple buddies took over the lease and I have leased property ever since.

Currently me and 4 of my closest buddies lease 750 acres. We are all on the same page as far as letting bucks get some age on them. Everyone splits the cost evenly and we don't skimp on anything. We have a pretty good setup without any drama.

I do the club thing but it is more like a bunch of folks leasing a large tract of land. We did the 2.5 hour drive to other parts of the state and stayed over night for many years. But that got old quick. Having two small children at home, I hate leaving them at home all weekend with my wife. We have a 100 acres in GA we hunt too with my uncle and it is absolutely perfect. Right in the middle of AG land. Im looking for something similar around here too for just my dad and boy.

Have club membership vote to have the dues changed. If you usually have 4 work weekends a year, add $400 to the dues. You get a $100 reduction for each weekend you work. If you get in their pocket you will either have more money or help...

I'm lucky. Truly luck. I have about 1300 acres split between 4 different farms that i get to hunt that doesn't cost me anything. Got my last farm, which is 100 acres Wednesday and i haven't even seen it yet.
