Sorry you feel that way; if you'll take a step back, we ARE helping him.

I'm not attacking you, man. I see you've been registered since '01, but ... Let me guess, you're new to turkey hunting, right?

You might consider this approach in the future 'cause you've kinda hosed yourself up now, but -- 1) ditch the attitude, 2) humble yourself & admit that you need help, 3) offer something IN RETURN for getting some help.

Just an idea ... for next time.

Not new to it at all. Fact is, I lost my turkey hunting partner, best friend, and my father when he died of lung cancer in 2011. I haven't had the desire to go. We were in a club together for over 20 years if you count the years when I was a dependent. Now I'm not in a club and new to public hunting land. When you hunt the same piece of property your whole life, you know it blind folded. This public land is a curve to me. I didn't expect the smart ass answers that I got from some on here. I was raised differently.

Usually you can "Google earth" your way into a good spot you have never been. Went to the Cahaba yeaterday and navigated my way, with my phone, to a good area that held a gobbling turkey. When it comes to public land ANY information, other than are the turkeys gobbling, is a hand out. Good luck.

Tidefan, I am very sorry you lost your dad and I hope you have some successful turkey hunts this hear. Maybe we caught you on a bad day, I was being sarcastic but not trying to be a smart butt at all. I have deer hunted hollins a couple of times but never turkey hunted so I can't be much help to you.

I'm actually having a great day. I just don't see the reason for all of the negativity. I didn't ask people for the location of their last roosted bird. I didn't claim that I cross property lines and that it's ok because it's for turkey hunting, as others have done on this site. All I did was ask for some advice and tips for hunting public land. I don't think that is out of the ordinary or rude. I was treated like a night hunter or poacher. It's ridiculous that you can't come to a hunting forum and ask for tips. Guess some of these clowns go to eBay and bitch about people trying to sell stuff.

You referenced left wingers and the world we live in earlier in the thread. I just want to point out to you, you seeking something for free, and being mad when others don't share your hardwork, is exactly like those liberals....

Now, you say people aren't willing to help. B.S. There are some very helpful people on here, most of us will do what we can to help other hunters. We, for the most part, draw the line at giving away free spots. Specifically, when we have a ton of time and money invested in finding them. I'll give you a little example. Parker243 got on here before turkey season (before being a key here) and was inquiring about some public land in the birmingham area. I told him to p.m. me. He is new to public land, and I've tried to help him out. We got together and scouted places that were new to both of us. I also showed him a place that I have found in years past. The key is, he didn't wait for season to come in, after the rest of us have already spent time in the woods scouting and learning, and ask people for spots on a wma.

I can honestly say, the only public land spots I've been given, were by people that also recieved something from me. For example, I've got a honey hole on Barbour Wma. A friend of mine told me about it, he no longer lives in the area, heard I was down there, and texted me, told me to check it out. This same guy has been hunting at my spots several times. It is all a trade off. Ridiculing people for protecting their investments, when they don't know you, is the definition of a freeloader.

Try reading what I asked instead of jumping on the bandwagon. I never asked anyone for their secret spot. I asked for pointers or advice for hunting a WMA. That's not being a freeloader. That's expecting a man to help a fellow man. I didn't get mad because I didn't get someone's secret spot. I didn't get mad at all. I simply reacted to the way I was responded to. If you think people making smart ass coments or putting me down for asking advice is appropriate then you are no better than they are. I've had the same job for 21 years...never asked anyone on here for anything other than advice. I'm not sure why people today are so reluctant to help others. I didn't ask to use their gun or their truck or even ask them to call in a bird for me. I simply asked for advice. It's a damn shame when grown men in Alabama are too stubborn and rude to help someone.

My old stomping grounds.
Do like I did. Print the map, start walking, listening, hunting.
May take a season or 3, but the more you learn it the more succcess you'll have.
Learning it yourself will be much more rewarding than some random dude on Aldeer putting you on one.
When you do this, then you will understand.
Not trying to discourage you, but encourage you in the right way.
Nothing is more satisfying than doing it 100% DIY.
Good Luck. Oh, BTW, If you're up next weekend, I'll be the guy in the white Tundra with FL. plates. Gimme a holler.

I read your posts, I was actually the first to respond to it. Asking for a general spot is asking for a honey hole. And if I post a general area or road name, then you, and everyone on the forum, and everyone that can use google will know about that general area. Then the spot is ruined. I've seen it happen with turkey's and ducks. Try hunting public land for a few years and you will change your tune. Personally, I would be much more inclined to let you borrow a gun or come call in a bird for you, than give out a public land location.

My club is right next to hollins. I've only been on the WMA once but I'll probably go scout the WMA this weekend myself. If you see a dark blue Nissan Frontier Pro-4x, stop and say hi.

Oh and FYI, "pointers and advice" would be asking for tactics for public land, tips on how to scout, etc. you asked for advice on where to hunt on a wma that you are obviously close enough to to scout

I can understand the OP asking the question the way he did, since he put spots to avoid in there. If you've never hunted there, it might be handy to know which areas are going to be crowded out by the weekend guys and should be avoided, if zone A is more hot than Zone B, etc. - But I agree with not giving out honey holes either. I mean I'm in almost the same boat the OP is. I'm going to try and start hunting it, and have never scouted it either. Maybe if someone limits out I can give them $100 to put me on a turkey grin rofl

I just wanted pointers such as "avoid the SE area due to high traffic" or "they don't respond to owl hoots as well as a crow." I want expecting gps locations and times.
