Agreed seapro. Tidefan, don't take it too hard, i think these guys are just kidding mostly. I'm glad youre getting back into it and if I had hunted that land I would gladly share what I know with you. SOme in here take it way too serious. One in particular who im not going to name (BGD) would likely make you disappear permanently. Where are you located? I'm sure we could work out a hunt at pulpwhood if interested.

Hell I don't even post pictures on this sight of public land kills. Its amazing how all of a sudden you start seeing new trucks around your honey holes. There a lot of people that troll this sight. The only advise I can or will give for public land is try and cover as much ground as possible learning the area. A map will help pin point best area's to focus on. You will have some great days and some bad. Good luck and hope you find a fired up Tom.

Whild_Bill, by the response that Tidefan received I thought he asked for their corn pile location. LOL I am going to Orange Beach this weekend for a week for Spring break and I was going to ask about WMA's in Baldwin County, but I have changed my mind. I will just leave the turkey gun at home and get after them in two weeks. Or you could research it on the internet, scout it on google earth and go hunt. I did that one time in the orange beach area. Heard 6 birds and called 1 in for a buddy who missed. Why do people need others to hold their hand? just go do it, geez, that is half the fun.

Tidefan101. you sir are in the right from my perspective, you asked for pointers not dropped gps pins. I wouldn't let it bother you too much considering the poster who is stirring your pot the most claims to have never even heard a turkey gobble...poor guy is probably a little frustrated (understandably so) I see no problem with what you have asked but I'll keep putting in the time and walking roads and learning my hunting properties inside and out before I'll ask someone else to spoon-feed me a bird. you can say that asking for "general info" about public land isn't asking for "people's honey holes" but when it comes to public land, just about ANY info is too much. post one little tidbit and next thing you know, there's 10 new trucks in the parking lot b/c "they read on aldeer that you can kill birds at [public wma] if you do [tidbit]" get a map look at google maps' satellite view put on some comfortable shoes get off your ass go spend time in the area and learn where birds are/aren't

y'all say you want general info, well you've been given it multiple times.
I'd feel safe in saying that you can kill a turkey on ANY WMA in Alabama, if you put in the time/effort.
THAT is the trick. after that, the only real question left is "Where", and nobody is going to tell you that

Not new to it at all. Fact is, I lost my turkey hunting partner, best friend, and my father when he died of lung cancer in 2011. I haven't had the desire to go. We were in a club together for over 20 years if you count the years when I was a dependent. Now I'm not in a club and new to public hunting land. When you hunt the same piece of property your whole life, you know it blind folded. This public land is a curve to me. I didn't expect the smart ass answers that I got from some on here. I was raised differently. Again, I'm not attacking you, but -- 20 years of hunting experience, huh? Why would public land be a "curve" to you, then? I grew up on private land & still hunt it now, but when I moved to Texas in the 90's, I didn't bat an eye at hunting Ft. Hood -- public land -- which has 214,968 acres and I didn't have access to Google Maps, GPS, none of that crap; they handed you a map at the check-in huntin' house on base, slapped you on the back, & wished you good luck. Hunting is hunting, no matter if it's public or private. IJS BGD

The general info I was talking about are things like "WMA birds don't gobble a lot or they don't like it when you call too much." You act like I wanted someone to print a map and mark a tree where he saw his bird and also include his SS# and pin # to his bank account. If you don't want to help, don't post. See, you didn't ask for information like do they gobble much, or how much should I call......Actually, an exact quote from your original post is " what areas to focus on or avoid?". In most of our minds, asking this is a lot closer to "print a map and mark a tree" than it is to what you posted in this last message.....

By areas to avoid I meant highly populated areas that people flock to. How about this...if you question something people post, ask them instead of just assuming. I could have cleared it up for you then.

I could have cleared it up for you then. Ok, here ya go....it's public land. It's ALL going to be crowded. But the farther you get away from a parking lot and/or road, the less crowded it will be. a lot of hunters are lazy...if you're less lazy than the next guy, you'll probably be more successful than him.

Thanks. I didn't know it would all be crowded. Last thing I want to do is park somewhere and walk in on someone. That's why I was trying to avoid certain areas.
