The pain train is rolling up on Oklahoma City as I type with Daggerz at the wheel and Solo riding shotgun. We ought to be near our Texas farm about gobble time if all goes well. Going to try to listen in the morning and do some scouting before the saturday opener. We have 3 places in Oklahoma that we have to check out before the monday opener there. We are hoping for a safe and successful trip. We have 18 tags right now and can buy 1 more each in Oklahoma if needed. smile

They will remember us from last year soon. smile they killed 10 off of the place opening week before we got there last year, we made sure we were first in line this year for the spring harvest.

We did ok last year in 2 days.

We're about an hour away or so. The temps have dropped from the 60's to the 40's with at least a 30mph North wind. Feels like friggin Kansas. Weather is supposed to come back around by opening day.

Brandon, what part of Texas are you going to be hunting? I was in Wellington last November, and the Rios were everywhere.

We flew into Oklahoma City.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

Ain't nothing like pulling up to your parking spot and seeing a pile of strutters in the cattle lot just chilling out.

Well we have found a ton of birds today. A bunch of strutters with hens. Several mack daddies with some sho nuff ropes. We are going to a big roost tonight to see how many show up and devise a plan of attack for the morning.

I've hunted 3.5 days so far this year and killed 5 birds I'm liking these odds but not the amount of time I've gotten to hunt this year so far.

I ended up sitting up ALOT closer to the birds this morning than I meant to. I walked in and was sitting down when I heard a hen and she was close, to close for my liking. I got situated and sure enough the gobblers and jakes started firing off and there was a bunch of them. The hens started pitching out and it was DARK. I was worried that I wasn't going to even be able to tell the jakes from the gobblers if they came by me. The hens worked out in front of me and to my right with 3 jakes that were strutting, gobbling, and yes even drumming. I've never heard a jake drum before but one of the 3 that were stayin with the hens could roll like a big boy. That really surprised me. There were several jakes chasing the longboards off and it being pretty dark it was hard to tell which was which at times. A bunch of birds were roosted to the left and had pitched down and were already going away from me so I knew if I could ever pick a longboard out I could make a loop and try to get on them later, but i probably had 50 or so birds out in front of me in the pasture. Finally I saw 5 jakes chasing a longbeard from my left through the woods and headed my way. Sure enough they drive him into range and I dumped him. All of the birds scattered and ended up going the same direction gobbling and fighting the whole way. When they got it of sight I got up and went to try and find the other group of birds. I ended up finding one gobbler out strutting in a wheat/cotton field but he wouldn't budge. I did a big circle and got near where I thought he was headed and called a few times to see if I got an answer and I didnt. I eased up toward the field and saw a bunch of jakes running around and a gobbler way off to their right so I hit the ground and backed up into some bushes. I pulled out a mouth call and talked a few times and heard nothing. I heard something behind me at one point and had turned to see why it was and when I went tn turn I saw a gobbler at 100 yards freaking out trying to find a way under the fence. He finally figured it out and put on a good show strutting and gobbling for me. I didn't know if he was going to close the gap past 75 yards but a little sweet talk had him to interested and got him shot. The first bird looks like a good 3 year old, the second is a 2 year old. I found a pretty good shed when I went out to pick #2 up and saw a ton of these tame deer out here. We saw a roadrunner yesterday and I had one come in on me a few minutes ago to investigate. If they can be called in they are big a enough to be some fun to hunt. I walked back to my original setup to stash my second bird and there is a gobbler out in the pasture all alone.

Brb...... I hear hens talking back to me.

Alright, she wanted to throw down, but she didn't bring any gobblers with her. she made it to about 5 feet before she pumped the brakes. I thought I might finally get attacked by a turkey and was kind of looking forward to it.

Me and this bull are about to have a serious disagreement. Every time he sees me he starts bellaring, pawing the ground and trying to bow up on me. Ain't no rocks and the sticks all have thorns in them.

Sticks and rocks? You have tss, but may need a bigger cooler to bring a whole bull home.

Man I love Texas. We used to go to a ranch in Sabinal that was bowhunting only. 13k acres of prime deer hunting. This place had the most turkeys I had ever seen, but back them I just thought they were a noisy deer scaring corn eating bird. Thinking back at all the oppertunities I passed up to shoot one with my bow so I wouldn't mess up the deer hunt makes me sick. I just didnt have the turkey sickness back then I have now. Guess Im gonna have to plan a trip west next year. Anyway congrats on the kills. Pile em up deep!!!!

I was surrounded by birds this morning, but could only get one to break away from the groups. He came hard but got to 50 yards and wouldn't budge. I could've killed him but I would have to swing hard right and shoot. Didn't like it and let him walk off. Got on two more good gobbling birds but they did they same thing. Just hung out at 65 yards looking into the bottom I was in and wouldn't budge. They walked off too.

This just wasn't my morning.

That's what you get for losing all that weight. That bull sure wouldn't have done that last year. grin

Congrats on the hunt this morning. Looking forward to more carnage updates and pics.

Looks like my second out of state trip will be to Oklahoma and Texas. The number of birds you can kill is awesome. Yall keep slaying them! I'm gonna have to get some information on planning my trip next year.

Gonna try to decapitate another, this eve. It's freaking hot, where I'm sitting. May have to sit on a cooler, like I'm dove hunting, n a few days, when it heats up, to the nineties.

Sounds like a good start to another fun, multi-state turkey massacre. Good job and good luck with the rest of the trip!

another question Brandon..are not those big roosts something? Those rolling gobbles that start at one end and go for 1/2 a mile?

Dang it man...I miss that area for turkeys!

Good job getting the opener this year. Nothing like being the first one in on those roosts. Looks like you and Ole daggerz are getting it done!

He was at the athens meeting with Matt wasnt he?

Cmon solo...get on that helmet and get in the game!

Im sure youll have one dead by dark!

Been an active hour or so. I was yelping and cussing a hen back and forth earlier and a silent gobbler comes in off my right shoulder. I was froze but at 10' he knew something wasn't right. He eased off and out into the pasture and just stood still at about 200 yards. The hen I had been calling to was coming to be and then I heard a gobble from where she was. 4 hens and a gobbler hit the pasture. He wouldn't budge but he didn't end up following his hens to the water tank and stayed between me and them. He finally had enough soft talk and got a little to close checking me out and I let the tss do it's thing. Another solid 3 year old.

That makes 6 for us today so far with another hour or so of light left.

It's private, just paying locals to hunt their farms.

We've got us a nice piece of wire or a staple in the tire to deal with sometime tonight or tomorrow. Its leaking slow so hopefully it stays up, can't have nothing nice.

Got 1 this evening, but had probably 10 gobblers come in silent from all different directions. Couldn't get turned on them.

Brandon: We REAL turkey hunters call them a "flock" of jakes, not a "herd". Just busting your chops out of jealousy for your skills vs my lack thereof.

"real" turkey hunters know that a herd is more than a flock. Dang city slickers from Yankee land trying to tell us southerners how to turkey hunt.

11 of 12 tags filled in Texas. I still like one but we are going to go hunt ok tomorrow and Tuesday and I can come back to tx since it is on the way back and forth to ok.

I called in a "herd" of 19 gobbling jakes this afternoon after calling in 9 total this morning. They don't understand how hard it is not to kill one sometimes.

Been a great trip. We are all dead tired and beat up, but having a blast. I'm sleeping in tomorrow or going to be a camera man for one of the other 2 I think.

I'll text you some pics Matt and let you post a couple. Service isn't good where we are sitting right now.

I'm limited out in OK now. B just videoed me killing another 1.25" gobbler.

Feels good to tag out in TX and OK, after a somewhat slow start for me.

Yes we could but best we can tell all of our property is in the same county or that is what the landowner is telling us. smile I am leaving a tag in Texas too, but I ain't complaining. We knew it would be tought to fill all 18 in 6 days, but we have done well and filled 16 in 3 so far. smile there is still hope for 17 of 18 though. Heck it's still light out here at 8:23 right now.

We were able to get a few kills on film this week and take inventory for next year. smile We got some new property from another landowner at lunch today thanks to Daggerz in both states for $100 a day next year as many birds as we can kill. Sounded like he had a ton of property and he hates them so that is a plus for us.

Love those local and there agreement in those birds need to die.

Congrats on another great trip.

People want paid out here but 100-200 a day ain't bad when you can kill them all in the same day. We've made some good connections now and should be in ever better shape next year and years to come.

This farm had about 100 crazy 1000 pound steer calves on it. They liked to cause problems that's for sure. smile they had an old hog trap on the farm but we couldn't see anyone darting a hog when you could just shoot one.
