Has anyone even questioned the "why would the GW possibly compromise the hunt, without probable cause of any kind" scenario?
I've read what the OP wrote - what if he had roosted a bird, parked strategically, walked close to the bird way before daylight, to get to a likely fly down spot. I've done it and go in early. And then as light starts coming, there's a GW.
Now that is bush league!! GW doing his job legitimately and "busts" my hunt for deer, turkeys, ducks or whatever, or a Marine Police boat pulling up while I'm fishing to check? I don't mind. They're doing their jobs. Yeah, it may "bust" a hunt but I'd rather them be doing their jobs than not. That's not bush league, either. It's what GWs do when they're doing their jobs. Their job isn't to make sure a hunt is successful. AMEN!! All LEO's are 'evil' to many people.......until they need them!!!!

I then tell him I'm there to see him because so and so gave a statement "that you raped her". Misleading, yes, but an absolutely true statement. You expressed a legal truth. If he was older (an adult) then yes, he raped her. Do the ends always justify the means? Does lying to a suspect, or in the OP a possible game warden taking possession of keys on private property, always justify the end result? Attorneys get crucified for dancing around topics in court or nitpicking evidence. Police get hailed for doing great things after maybe lying and conniving to get a conviction. As for leaving an envelope lying around with "Fingerprint Analysis" or "DNA Results" and it has next week's football schedules, or telling suspect "Oh, yeah, we have fingerprints" ... Legally OK? Yes, by the ruling of courts. Legally true? Maybe. You may have fingerprints. They may be Susie's from Accounting when she was hanging on to the desk after a wild encounter with someone after hours. But slimy Suspect Sam doesn't know that and gives up the goods. Legal? Yes. Still a crummy way to do things sometimes.

And we come to the heart of the matter. There is nothing definite in ethics. Each person has their own standards, and what is wrong to one is ok to another.
What about what is referred to in police ethics as "the Dirty Harry problem". Dirty Harry shoots a suspect in the leg to coerce the location of a kidnapped girl. The Dirty Harry problem is when, if ever, is it ok for the police to do wrong in order to gain a good outcome?
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I gotta say, if, and it could be a big if, the warden was trying to be nice and help you out I still do not see why he would take your keys. If keeping your atv safe from thieves was that big of a deal to him, he could have waited by it for you until you got back and said, " hey I was just looking out for ya." In my humble piss ant brained opinion I beleive he took your atv keys for the sake of having them in case he saw you shoot a turkey, checked you and discovered you were hunting either illegally or were an outlaw. If he has your keys, you can not escape as easily, obviously .

You'll just get out of the felony, Rape 2nd charge but you will probably then have to deal with a Contributing charge and possibly worse, a pissed off father.

let me present you with a scenario that happened to me and see if you think I was ethically wrong. In Alabama having sex with someone between 12 and 16 is Rape 2nd if the offender is more than 2 years older. Consent is not an issue in 2nd degree. Somehow or another a 13 yoa girl's family finds out she has been participating in the nasty with a young man who is a legal adult. I think she was preggo or had an std or something where it was hard for her to deny it. So family brings her to my office and she admits it and tells me who the young man is. Now I'm very familiar with him as he is a very regular customer. I go out to the County jail where he was residing at that time, we go through the Miranda dance and he signs a waiver. I then tell him I'm there to see him because so and so gave a statement "that you raped her". Misleading, yes, but an absolutely true statement. He immediately slammed his hand down and says "I did not! She let me have it." Thank you sir, that will and did work quite nicely as an admission.
The only other time I can remember lying in interrogations is playing partners in crime against each other. "You know your buddy is in the other room putting it all off on you". This happens all the time in interrogations.
What about the old trick of leaving an manilla envelope on your desk with an official looking tab on it that says "fingerprint results" filled with blank papers in plain view and then telling them the results indicate they are the guilty person.
Do you feel these are unethical practices? What about the use of undercover officers? They are in effect, if not directly, lying also?
I don't have a problem if you think these things are wrong, in fact I admire your ethical standings, but law enforcement and even national security intelligence would be much more difficult following the ethics of absolute truth.
BTW, you were wise to say not to talk without a lawyer. A good interrogator can get the truth from anyone as long as they will flap their gums. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor. Or are there exceptions that God didn't tell errbody?
