Go find a small piece of land to put the 25,000 on instead of a pool!!

I've been doing this for a few years. Good enough for the wife and I to float around in and drink some beer. I added a saltwater system to mine which leaves me with hardly any maintenance.

I said thinking...I never consented at all. I just needed to hear it from others. My mom has one 100yds out the road, my stepdad hobbles out there every day at nearly 80 years old & works on that old pool. The sides are trying to cave, the concrete has cracked & settled in several places & no one ever swims in it. I've been hearing about a pool for years & won't have one. I may have to go the cheap above ground type to prove a point.

My wife hollers about wanting one every year. I always tell her not a chance. I bet once you got good at it or had a good system like bustinbeards was talking about, it would be easier. I can see where I'd like to have one if not for the upfront expense. My neighbor has one and it always working on that dang thing and draining it and refilling it every spring. I told my wife to make better friends with our neighbor or I can buy her a family summer pass to goose pond public pool around the corner

I have an 18 x36', just switched it to saltwater, we use it almost every day when we're home, but I've got an ol lady that doesn't believe in the word "no" and still looks pretty good in a bikini.

Just sayin'....

I had a pool installed when I was stationed there last and loved it, especially after doing yard work. Not sure where the couple hundred a month in upkeep comes from but, mine was kept up by me and all I had to do was add salt (it's cheap) once in a while after a few heavy rains. The salt water generator makes chlorine but, it doesn't have the smell or the burn of chlorine. The downfall is if you want to sell later. Our pool added about $8000 to the appraisal so, I lost about 10k on that deal.

Just remember with above ground you can get an access ladder. But eventually you are going to be building a deck too. I have more in the deck than the cost of the pool. Good luck thumbup

We just put ours up this weekend....it's been a thorn in my side, but it's totally my (and my wife's) fault.

She is a very spur-of-the-moment person, decided last Friday she wanted one, so she went and bought one at lunch without consulting me. we don't have a flat spot in our yard.

I decided I'd try to set it up anyway, found the flattest spot I could (still not particularly flat) and started filling it up. got about 2ft of water in it and it started going over the downhill side. &#$@!%#!

drained it, pulled it up, went and got 3yds of sand got the spot "mostly" leveled and then started completely over.

now the pool is up and has as much water in it as it can - still not level so the lower end is all the way up, but the upper end only has about 3.5 ft of water instead of 4. I can live with that. went to hook the pump up - outside outlet is dead - no power. so we're having to run a damn extension cord through our bedroom window, temporarily, to power the pump until I can fix the outside wall outlet.

My neighbor ran into rock and was over $40k. A neighbor's pool is the best kind.

I had to get sand and level my spot as well. Like you, mine is about 3.5 ft on one side.

My mom had a pool growing up. It was one of the big above ground pools. It was fun when I was little but a 4' deep pool sucks. No jumping or diving, just wondering around in 4' of water. If you are going to get a pool get an in ground pool with a deep end so you can jump, dive and have more fun.

Now with that being said I would never ever want a pool. To expensive, to much maintenance, and like others have said you will get tired of it...

I worked most summers through high school and college for two uncles that had a dealership. One summer, we set a company record for 42 installs. I worked with them another 3 years. When I left, 20 of those 42 had been yanked out and the yard re-filled. FWIW.

No way with the resistance of your ears you would have made it to the bottom in a head first dive.
