The whole world has become a cesspool but I'd hardly blame that on blacks. I'd blame it on government being what they have always been, or eventually grown into, which is an oppressive, restrictor of its people. Government, left unchecked, always seeks more power and is always moving toward a dictatorship. Some at a slower pace than others but moving none the less.

It just makes sense that as your ranks are slowly filled with former/current military personnel that your training, gear etc would become more militarized.

Anyone that thinks militarized police forces are a good idea should look into the intent our founding fathers had with the 3rd Ammendment. Also, google illegal swat raid and watch the us vs them mentality that swat teams take, many times against non violent offenders or even innocent victims, sometimes. Police are supposed to serve and protect, not be engaged in war or battle. We have the real military and National Guard should that need arise. We should let the police do their job and the police should let the military do theirs.

Why would I have any fear of police, regardless if militarized or not? It is their job to defeat lawlessness and thugery. If it takes special equipment for our military to do that abroad, what's the difference in police having here at home? A police in the midst of social unrest (Baltimore, for example) is in as much danger as soldiers.

The whole basis of the second amendment is that we have the right to bear arms to protect ourselves from tyranny. Sure, we're outgunned by the military, if it came to that, but many people get nervous knowing that a less-trained, more fractured police population could have access to military grade stuff. RPGs, etc could allow a rogue sheriff, etc to apply martial law as he saw fit.
Unlikely, yes, but clearly possible.
As for me, I favor the de-militarization.

I had that exact same situation with some of my wife's family several months back. I told them if I heard GomerJr say it, he'd get a warning the first time but after that he'd get his butt tore up and I'd make them watch, knowing it was their fault. That seemed to put an end to it.

What I can’t ever seem to get my folks to understand is that the reason why I don’t say it or have my kids say it is about who I am and the person that I’m trying to be……and not because I necessarily condone the way some black folks choose to conduct themselves. Truth be told, we probably don’t feel that differently about it. But because they choose to behave that way doesn’t mean I have to conduct myself in a similar manner in order to counter those actions. I strive to he a better person than that. I fall short sometimes but I try really hard.

That's not the reason we don't like Obama. It's because he's destroying our country. Not because he's freaking black.

Good grief!!!! Guess I should have gotten the whole story before I posted this. But the local news mentioned Obama wanting to stop police from having military style rifles and even camo clothing. I do agree that most police depts don't need mraps, rocket launchers,tanks and a nuclear bomb but how many depts have and use AR 15 type firearms and depend on them on a daily basis. I don't carry one but alot of our guys do. My thing is if he can take them from police are we next?

I couldn't believe this didn't make it on here yesterday but it would really help if at least one person in this argument read something about it.

He's only limiting what the feds Give to police. They can buy what ever they want. I don't have a problem with it. I don't like all these little municipalities parading around in armored trucks.

And you must not travel much. There is no one more racist than the North East populace. They hate black people with a passion that makes the average southerner look like a member of the aclu. No one in this thread had called him anything racist but you decided to give everyone the title of racist because they disagree with his policies. I've seen that done several times and it's just deflection for a president whose policies will cause him to go down as the worst of all time. Racism didn't cause him to further the destruction of our country and calling others racist for disagreeing won't help your children face reality anymore than those who buy the nonsensene that blacks are to blame for all of our problems.

Bill's correct, in some regard. Some of the Northeast and Upper Midwest states have cities and citizens that are just as blatantly racist as in the Southeast.
