I had no idea there were enough slug guns in the state to prop a door open.
Just a curiosity question but why are you guys using slug guns? I know there are some places (gubmint land) that are slug only.

Most of the places any of us hunt the (150+ yards) it fit the bill perfectly. Plus I like knocking big holes in deer and they never ran over 30 yards shot thru the lungs. Those hornady sst slugs are bad news on a deer
We will burn that bridge when we get there

Redstone Arsenal doesn't allow rifles. Neither does Corps land down south. They do knock a big hole. I hadn't hunted Redstone in a few years. I'm planning to use mine to hunt some thick, thick areas. Capstick called the slug gun "the poor man's express rifle." We've found a short barreled shotgun with buckshot to be invaluable in tracking wounded deer in thickets too.

A rifled barrel 870 is all you need. Plenty good enough group at a 100 yards to kill a deer. You will need to try several different slugs to see which one your gun likes best.

Really like my Savage 220 with the Leupold Ultimate Slam 3-9x40 scope on it. Very accurate with Remington AccuTip 2 3/4 inch slugs. The place I hunt most when I get a chance to hunt offers very few 100+ yd shots. This setup may not work for everyone, but it's perfect for me.

What's yalls opinion on 12 gauge or 20 gauge? I like the 12 just because it makes a bigger hole than a 20.

What's yalls opinion on 12 gauge or 20 gauge? I like the 12 just because it makes a bigger hole than a 20. X2. And more slug weight across the board for better penetration too. They're probably gonna run some if you don't hit the spine. I like a better chance of two holes. All of this is assuming the gun isn't for a kid though.

20 - every deer my son or I have killed with his 20 ga has had two holes (or more ) in it. I still don't know why you are so down on 20's Chad considering how many deer T-killa has killed with his.

Several misfires and piss poor accuracy. Swapped back to the hornady and those problems went away

My 220 shoots the 2 3/4" Accu-Tips much more accurately than the 3". I've heard this from several folks.
