I had a running tab with Wanda at Warrens. When I moved up here it hurt to pay that one out. She was good to us that's for sure.

I got witnesses that will place you there. Course this was back in 83 or thereabouts.

My recollection is a little foggy. Someone told me one time it was fun and I enjoyed it.

I remember dime beer at The Warehouse.

Yep...sounds like my occasional nights there...with an occasional stop at O'Neal's.

Y'all stop it. Y'all are making me depressed. I used to live at Warrens on Friday nights for a while. I would always go to the Tally Ho n get some French onion soup first though. Good stuff.

Ya'll are in the younger crowd. Thank goodness I had outgrown all my silliness by the time Warren's, The Swamp and other's ya'll mentioned came along. We pretty much pitched our tents in the Talley Ho after The Warehouse closed, with an occasional excursion to the disco scene at Charlie Brown's (only at the insistence of some female of course).

Too bad you younger guys didn't get to experience The Warehouse. It was fun. Live music, a wild, but very safe environment and like Clark said dime beer on Wednesday from 8-9. A full bottle for a dime. The only catch was you had to give them the empty bottle to get another one when it started getting close to 9. It was owned by Howard Strickland, of Major Grumble's fame, and no one got out of line in his establishments. If they did, they had no desire to return ever again. At AU when you met someone and they found out you were from Selma, they immediately wanted to road trip on a Wednesday night with you. We took many a trip back just for that. Thank goodness one of my roommates never drank, but always wanted to be in the party, so we always had a driver.

This is sad because it just reminds me of what Selma once was and what it could have been.

The Warehouse was a blast! Don't think I missed a Wednesday night there for the year I went to school in Selma.

Is Charlie Browns still open? We snuck off there a few times when I was at the Police Academy in Selma back in 91. IIRC there was actually some decent looking women there, which surprised us, Selma being what it is.

The Swamp and Warrens were my two favorite places in Selma when I used to hang out over there. I played at the Swamp once a month for a few years and spent more than a few nights picking guitar in Warrens's Tavern. Good times!

The Sandbar (where the old marina was) is pretty good food and a decent watering hole.

Charlie Brown's is a Mexican restaurant now. Selma's always had pretty girls you just had to know where to look for them and Charlie Brown's wasn't always the best place. We had to deal with a few drunk cadets in there over the years, but not too often. Mainly it was the night before the graduation. Cost a guy his graduation and job one time.

Macs Fish Camp was good. I think it burned?

Or the barbecue place that puts the cracklin on the top of the meat.

Yep Mac's burned a few years ago. Sure miss their AYCE catfish.

Lannie's is good, but don't plan on getting in and out of there in a hurry.

Someone could make a fortune if they built another Mac's. It's not like they had a lot of capital in their building, but man that fish was good. Mike Hancock of Hancock's BBQ owned it when it burned and contemplated rebuilding and his daughter running it, but she didn't want to be tied to Selma I guess.

We host a group of hunters from all over the country every January and have taken them to all the eating places in Selma. Mac's was by far their favorite.
