Does the "In Posession" portion of the bag limit mean un-cleaned or if I limit on 8 tree rats on day one, Im done until I eat a few?

I believe it just means 8 a day in possession per day per hunter..it don't matter how many you have in the freezer as long as it was no more than 8 each day...atleast thats' the way I take it.

I interpret it to mean 8 a day regardless of when you decide to eat'em. I'll be glad when it opens so I can try to save some of our pecan crop.

It means the amount of animals your allowed to have in your possession at one time. If you kill 8 squirrels tomorrow and 8 the next day and they are together in a cooler you could be ticketed for over the limit. I believe the only way around that is they have to be separated with dates on the bags to be legal. I may be wrong on that though. I know people have told me they left a dove shoot with all there birds in one bag and were given a hard time from a gw over it. He said they were suppose to be separated with each hunters name on the bag of birds they had.

I was gonna go catch some crappie but I guess I'll stay and reduce the tree rodent population. Decisions...Decisions.

From what I have been told with ducks is that if the total possession is 8. 8 is all you can have on you, in your house, wherever. so if I'm on a 3 day duck hunt and 6 is the daily limit, with 12 being the in my "possession" limit. I better eat 6 or give 6 away before I hunt the third day.

I don't know how to interpret the possession rule either. Easy solution: suck at hunting like me and never limit out on anything...

IRC the bag limit is twice the daily in possession. The Feds are strict, not sure if a state DNR would say much about tree rats???
Ducks are a big deal and at one point we had to keep a wing on for identification of species. We could not breast them in the field.

As a duck hunter, I am well schooled on possession limits. The federal gme wardens take it very seriously. Posession is normally twice to three times the daily limit. Every person in the household is entitled to a possession limit. So multiply possession limit by people in the house.

There was a guy out west that got the hammer dropped on him over trout. He had something like a couple hundred in his possession and they took him to the cleaners

Waterfowl is migratory and has federal implications, thus the more stricter possession limits and regulations. Don't confuse waterfowl with tree rats or rabbits or "I think it's ..."


Best option is to call DCNR Law Enforcement in Montgomery at 334-242-3467 or your local District office and ask them about regs, limits, possession and whatever else. Get it from the game wardens.
