Over the years, I've lost some good friends over deer hunting. I seem to only have one guy that I consistently hunt with now. He hunts like me and has the same philosophy when it comes to hunting. There are a ton of styles and thoughts on deer hunting and how it should be done on even the smallest detail. If you don't agree on all of them, people are just so uptight about it sometimes it's not fun and disagreements happen!

I am the type of person that enjoys the company of people out in the woods. I enjoy putting a person on their first deer and get more enjoyment out of seeing that that over me shooting the deer even if it's a big monster I've been after for years. I just enjoy the whole deal no matter how it goes down.

But not everyone is like that so, I will answer that just pick your hunting partners carefully!

I like having someone out there to help drag a deer or for me to help them drag a deer as well. And then it's just plain safer as well. I use climbers on public land a lot and it's just safer having someone else out there with you.

Fact of the matter is, I hunt by myself most of the time, but not because of enjoyment. I've got 3 people that I can think of, who are welcome with me anytime. They all 3 live too far away to get together often anymore.

What I look for, is someone who is good for his commitments, has the same level of intensity for hunting, and hunts the same way. I've hunted with and around hundreds of people, and those three I named are the only ones I could hunt with every day and never have an issue. Oddly enough, those three hunt almost identically to me, whether its Ducks, deer, or turkeys. Two of them, I taught myself, and they were good learners, the other came by it honestly.

If you can't show up at 4am like you're supposed to, you get the boot. If you puss out or slow down because you're tired, you get the boot. If we constantly have contradicting ideas on how to set the decoys, where to hang a stand, or when to call to a hard gobbling bird, then you get the boot.

Finding a good hunting buddy, is just as hard as finding a good woman. maybe harder

Aw I didnt make the list? shocked lol

Turkeys be damned.

I hunt alone most of the time but ...

- Someone that can share info on good spots with and KNOW he will not utter a single word to anyone else about it
- Someone that does what he says he will do ... that I can count on
- Someone that respects my stuff (gear, food, etc...)

I don't want to pass quietly into the night. I want to slide in sideways kickin and screamin
Life really is awesome ... Soak it up while you can ...
