Good luck I'm strapped in sitting on a hardwood ridge with acorn falling also. Came face to face within 10 yds of an 8 pt while walking out yesterday morning at 10:15 he was eating in the edge of a soybean field. I rounded the corner and hello there he was before I could get my bow up he was gone. Now I'm sitting on the trail leading to the field. Hope he comes back today!!

Hope all of you get big'uns today; or at least some meat for the freezer. Be careful out there and enjoy.

Hunting Bankhead National Forest this morning. Set up in some white oaks. Yesterday I seen deer headed to feed at 9am. Hopefully this change in strategy will work. Good luck you all!

Set up in an oak flat between a food plot and a creek. Pulled my first boneheaded move of the season. Got to the tree and went to hook my tether up to my life line. I forgot my #%^¥€*~ harness. slap Hauled ass back the truck and got it. Good thing I was early this morning. I still got settled in plenty of time. Got my exercise in for the day. grin

Set back up here on this Mtn. Moved about 75 yards from the tree I was in yesterday. Nice shooter walked down this wash at 0915 yesterday and walked away from me on this bench. Maybe he returns?

Setting on ridge between a thicket and a greenfield. Already had a spike and doe come by feeding on acorns. I wanted to drill the doe but I've got a real nice buck on camera in here and don't want to mess it up.

Swampy creek bottom at the edge of an overgrown field and a fresh clearcut. Hoping to catch one slipping along the creek headed back from the clearcut.

I was headed to a spot I hunted last year and got turned around in the woods. Instead of stomping out to my normal spot I stopped where the thick stuff meets a few oaks I hope are dropping. It's a good looking spot so the deer will probably avoid it.

I'm at Bankhead too. Hopefully, a little further from another hunter than yesterday. When I went out someone was parked about 300 yards from me. I was wondering how those deer that blew were smelling me when I was downwind from them. Musta smelled the other guy.

Sitting around a ton of white oaks. It is windy and haven't heard many acorns drop. Hunted 2 different spots yesterday and they both didn't have many acorns. Maybe I will get lucky and catch one passing though

Congrats, Coosa1!

I woke up late this morning, but got ready and came on in anyways. I'm about 50 yds from where I was yesterday afternoon. White oaks are raining. I think I need a hard hat

My set up this morning. I've had a couple of good deer on camera in this area hopefully they will make a appearance this morning. I had a red fox stroll through just after dawn.

Congrats Coosa1!
So far I have seen one doe but she didn't get close enough for a good shot. It feels so good to be back in the woods!

Nothing here either, wondering if it was the front? Big oak flat in low area. We haven't seen the first back strap supplier.

Congrats Cosa!

Back at the house now. Didn't see anything but hopefully this weekend will be better. On a positive note, I'm really glad I switched to Muck boots this year. Most comfortable hunting boots I've had yet!

Haven't had good service but I finally bloodied an arrow this morning on a big corn fed doe! Shot her this morning around 8 am at 45 yards.

Nice job Randy on a big gal! Great shot at 45 yards!

EDIT: Awesome job on that camo you're wearing as well. I looked at that pic 3 times before I picked up your legs.

Back in same tree as this morning. I did rotate my stand about 5-10 degrees to give me the illusion of new scenery.

Nice kills men!

About to head out to a spot on the land I live on. Wife didn't want me to go far, so no Wheeler this evening. Just a short 5 minutes walk for me. Been some does showing up around 6-6:20 off and on the past few weeks. Maybe I'll get lucky today!

Just got settled back in the same stand as this morning. Saw a yearling and a small 8 this morning, hoping for big nanny or mature buck. Good luck to all who are out!

I just got settled in to hunt a nice buck I think I have patterned. I just hope he don't throw me a curveball this evening.

I'm hunting a clover field this afternoon. Hopefully, this swirling wind will kick back around out of the north

I've been watching 2 does and 2 fawns for about 20 minutes. They're about 150 yds from me

The dang wind blew right at those deer and they got a little squirrely. They eased off toward the creek...I just ranged it. They're 185 yds from me in that picture above. Much further than I thought

Just smoked a doe at 25 yards. Shot was a hair back,so gonna give her a couple of hours. Watched her slowly walk away with blood pouring out. Hate it wasn't an ideal shot, but it happens. Wish me luck

Congrats on the kills guys! Nice doe Shaw!

Got skunked again. Looked at my card from the camera next to this stand...and a deer was there last night at 6:30. I just can't win!

I didn't see a single deer at my new lease all day except of course walking back to the truck. Hoping it was just due to the heat. It's not a great bowhunting property anyways. Lots of pines and clearcut with very few hardwoods. Think I'm going to spend most of bow season at the management area.

Congrats on the kills, everybody! thumbup

I ended up having one of my best hunts of all time this afternoon...I saw 15 deer total and 7 of those were bucks. I was about to draw on a SOOS buck that I've had pics of, but could hear more deer coming from behind me. Deer kept coming into the clover field and I eventually had 8 deer looking right under me at a nice 8 that was entering the field. The 8 pt stopped 15 yds from me, but took off running at the other bucks about the time I was about to draw on him...Long story, short: I had 6 bucks come within 30-35 yds from me, but I never fired a shot! After it was over, I felt like such an idiot. But, I couldn't move or even make an attempt to draw with all of those eyes looking my way...None of them ever had a clue I was around. I'll be back in there and maybe I can get another crack at them! Here's the SOOS and biggest 8 pt (either of these would've been my best bow kill):

There should be a tracking dog near you. If you get decent blood and can't find him you may want to call one in.

It was the closest buck i ever shot. I saw him yesterday evening at 70 yards and put together the blind today after work. He came in right behind me and stopped. Nerve racking i tell you, but he came on out and stared at the blind. Awesome hunt regardless.

Jsmith, what did it sound like when the arrow hit? If you shot straight through him eye level out into a cutover, I'd bet that arrow is all but gone. If you hit the shoulder you should've heard a LOUD smack. Hope he's not far at all and you're able to get the meat too.

It sounded like a shoulder shot. Me and my son looked for the arrow and he said the same thing you said ,the arrow could be anywhere. Yall have any luck with shoulder shots? I think it stuck in his shoulder.being so close and him stopping caused a litte nervousness and i couldnt tell where it hit

I'll never bleat at a close one again. Maybe a little squeek or something. Gosh this is gut wrenching. Maybe i'll find him. Do yall think the meat will be good? Its going down in the 40' tonight.

I've found some and lost some. At 5 yards I'd think you would get enough penetration to hit lungs and all. You should be good to go other than possibly not having an exit and him bleeding mostly inside. Was he angled at all? Shouldn't really matter if he was or not really. God put that shoulder bone and brisket to protect stuff that keeps him alive. But if he was angled to you some there's a chance you only got one shoulder and may have an exit for blood to spill out of and you just couldn't find it in the dark.
I'm sure you'll think about it long enough tonight and have it all figured out by morning. smile
