imo as for a management tool ,,,, none !!!!

Especially with hardly any participation....

counting ever dead deer is useless if you don't know how many lives ones are left . they tried to pawn this off as a management tool . imo i don't see how .

Unless you hunt in a pen you will never know how many deer are left after the season. So with your train of thought everyone has been doing it wrong on all these managed properties that record harvest data.....

apples and oranges !!!!! on these managed properties do they not send a guy out to do a type of survey record weight , age ????

nothing but a big waste of money they could have used else where . the check done two things , counted dead deer and what sex was killed . in the big scheme of things it's useless as a management tool . it does tell you how many needs to or not to die the next season.

most of the stuff they do i'm fine with but it's got to be worth the money . they have very little of it to waste .

They do not send a guy out. We collect weights, we age the jawbones, and we collect observation reports and turn them in. Could imagine if the State asked hunters to do that what kind of bitching would have ensued..... The system is not perfect nor completely what is needed to properly manage the deer herd but it would be one more tool the State could use and since the money has already been spent and it is up and running why not use it...
