My pull up rope has a loop tied in one end of the rope always. When I get to the tree, I pull a little bit of the rope through the loop. Then slip the new loop around the grip of my stock and cinch it down. The more you pull the tighter it gets.

When you get it to the top, there aren't any knots to untie.

Half hitches are simple and work every time... We use them at work pulling all kinds of long slim stuff up with a rope! I would never tie my gun barrel down letting it down to the ground... To easy to get dirt up in it...

I make a loop in the rope about 15 inches give or take above the carabiner. Slid loop over barrel, clip carabiner on trigger guard. And it will fit any gun made with no adjustment. Pull it up unloaded of coarse.

Someone makes a pull rope with a deep plastic cap that the muzzle slides in and a Velcro strap that goes around the grip if you can't figure it out.

I have a quality snap on the end of my pull lines. For a shotgun, or other, with out a sling I make a double overhand loop knot at the area where the magazine tube terminates under the barrel. I leave another foot or so of cord enough to get to the trigger guard. Push the snap through the trigger guard and snap back to the line. Cinch the loops on the barrel and you can pull it to you upright.
I've done this for decades with my 1100 which I have no interest drilling holes into the stock for sling mounts.

Clove hitch around the barrel with a half hitch around the stock
