Late to the party! With the warmer weather, surprised how well y'all are doing.

Thanks! Nothing for me either had a triggered trap but I think it was a fox. I had the trap set farther back for coyote. The dirthole was dug from the right side of the trap. What do I need to do?

Looks like a good spot there killer. Congrats. I've gotta pull mine tomorrow but hopefully after my 4 days next week I can put a real line out and leave it for 2 weeks.

today is the 6th day that the traps have been set. caught 2 coyote and have 3 traps still operable. this is the results of the run this morning (i have also included the pictures from making the set):

trap on coyote road was sprung with nothing to show except raccoon tracks

dirt hole set at beaver pond. driving in berkshire cable stake with 3/8" "sharpened" rebar

bedding trap

covering with pre-sifted peat moss

looking good

clearing hole to apply attractant

what i found this morning

at this poing 4 out of 5 traps need resetting.

the next setup is on a grassy section of logging road behind a green field. it was a trench set (if memory serves). here the trap is already staked, bedded and topped with peat moss

making the hole for lure

widening hole so it looks like a critter might live in there

ready to go

wasn't really expecting to see anything this morning in this set. i was proved wrong and had to walk back to green field to get cubby to load him up.

small male but it's not about size, it's about numbers removed.

summary: set 6 traps on monday - 3 coyote, 1 raccoon and 1 miss - by saturday laugh 1 left...

Thanks. I'm trying to figure out where to set traps. Honestly, when I got these traps I thought catching coons would be like taking candy from a baby because catching them in a live trap by my barn was so easy. I figured you take them in the woods and that'd make it even easier. that hasn't proved to be true but I'm having fun. Or maybe it's because I'm not using honeybuns.

I pulled mine today because I'm not gonna be able to run them for a few days. May set a couple around the house just for fun.

That's a dang good catch ratio Brenda! Good job!

Killer I have the best results catching coons beside water. Anywhere your roads cross a branch or creek that's where I'd set my coon traps.

Now for my rant! I've been out in the shed tonight setting pan tension on traps and notice I've got at least one trap missing. It's one of my Bridger #2's that I bought last year. I specifically count my sets when I put them in and when I pull them so I'm 99% sure I didn't leave a trap buried somewhere. But why the hell would anybody steal 1 trap? I guess I'll go back and double check everything tomorrow and see if maybe it just got misplaced.

Well I had 1 trap thrown in the bed this morning. Looked like a deer stepped on it. Other than that nothing! Pulled my coon traps but left the 10 steel out for my neighbor to run. Probably going to take my big cage trap and try to build a cat cubby in one of our fence rows today. I've got cat lures I bought last season that I'm wanting to try and it'll be cool to catch one in a live trap.

I had 4 thrown traps and 1 missing. They were all coon sets by a creek, baited with peanuts and marsh mellows. Got to looking and saw small hog tracks everywhere, along with some larger ones.

I figure a smaller hog got caught in the duke 1.5 and pulled the whole thing out and took off. I know a coon couldn't pull a 2' stake out. At least it was a cheap duke and not one of my new Bridgers.

I double stake everywhere I can, I've only lost two traps trapping coyotes and both of them were single staked with a 30" stake. I have a picture I saved off of another site of a coyote that would Definately pump a single stake. It's awesome how that coyote is bowed up on the stake.

I've had one pump out double 18" rebar stakes. Luckily I also had a drag on the trap and he didn't go 5 yards before the drag hung him up. Super stakes are the way to go if you are going to anchor traps in my opinion. I'm working toward more double long springs on drags with the expanded pans. I love having a 4" x 4" kill area!

Since I don't have any coyote traps and haven't ever done it before, I got a local trapper to come set a mb550 in my front yard. He made a dirt hole set and , afterward, I went to inform the neighbor just as a heads up in case his dog gets caught. He was really cool about it. I don't think it'll take too many nights to catch this coyote because he's frequenting my persimmon tree fairly regularly. Hopefully, I'll have some pics to post tomorrow even though this isn't my trap.

Brenda I've been told by several folks from down your way how bad the coyotes were but y'all must literally be over run with them. Good job on taking action and getting rid of some of them.

Bad luck this morning, I reset my DPs yesterday afternoon after being gone for the weekend. Get to my next to last trap, and there is 2 foot of chain and my trap missing. Must have got the links kinked or twisted and popped it.
