Spending the morning in Cades Cove just looking this morning. It's warmer today and not seen any gooduns this morning. Thinking about driving over to the Carolina side of the mountain and looking for some Elk.

Well everything worked out like it was suppose to up to the recovery. Hunting in Bankhead and the rut is pretty much kicking for the most part. Hunting a small bowl of hardwoods with pines fingering down from 4 sides. Lots of scrapes/rubs in the pines getting worked over pretty good. Didn't see anything so I decided to do some rattling at 8:30. About 10 secs into it I hear a deer barrelings off the bluff down to my stand. By the time I put the antlers down he was standing below my stand. Amazing the terrain they can cover in such a short amount of time. This buck litteraly jumped down a 5 foot rock face. Unfortunately I had dropped my jacket while climbing the tree and the buck went right to it and got jumpy and started to haul butt back up the hill. I did a doe bleat and he paused giving me a nice 70yd quartering away shot. When I hit the buck he rolled back on his back two hooves and tumbled three times down the hill before he jumped back on his feet and ran over the hill top. I found five drops of blood and that was it. I searched for 3 hours and did not find another drop of blood. Can't believe I lost this buck when I hit him he was dead to rights stiff legged falling backwards. SMH

Good Lord what a sight that mustve been.....you in shorts and a tank top beeboppin through the woods. You must be trying to scare the bears away. Ha

JDawg he wasn't one of them Bruisers but he was a decent one. I just hate losing one. Sure was a pretty one. He had some dark antlers.

That's right, Slayer!

I'm back on the same field I hunted this morning. I've got my sights on a big doe that I've seen here several times

I'm settled in some thin pines on the edge of a cutover this evening. This weather isn't very motivating.

Just got home from a hunt with a friend on some TVA land only accessible by boat. He killed two deer off it this year, so we had high hopes in getting me my first. Go set up early, ready to go, but ended up seeing nothing. and DANG it was hot. Still had a fun time, enjoyed being in the woods. Probably won't be back out till next weekend.
