The dogs can't read a sign and there's no way to stop one that's on a hot trail other than killing the deer or catching the dog. A dog chasing a deer is not an uncommon occurrence. They get chased year round by coyotes, a dog trailing a deer through your property is no reason to shoot. Hate to hear about your dog!

You are incorrect Brandon, I've killed a tractor trailer load of deer in front of dogs. My dad was a deer dogger back in the 70's and 80's so I grew up around it. I know the adrenaline rush when you hear those beagles burning one up and you can hear it tearing the woods up coming to you. I don't hate or dislike any man who dog hunts, and I firmly believe in their right to dog hunt on their property. Notice I said "their property". The thing you need to understand Brandon is there's a right way to do thngs and a wrong way. There are dog clubs out there that do it right (Stony's club), but the ones that do it wrong far outnumber the ones that are doing right. Stalk hunting clubs far outnumber dog clubs and if the flippant attitude on the part of some dog hunter continues I hate to say it, but that right is going to be taken away sooner rather than later. I hate to see it, especially for the clubs that do it right.

I will go ahead and predict the rest of this thread.

1. Stalk hunters will say they don't want dogs running deer on their lease.

2. Dog supporters will counter with:
a. Dogs don't know property lines.
b. It helps you by running deer by you.
c. If you don't like it put up a fence.
d. Well coyotes are running deer too.
e. Better not mess with my dog or I will kill you.

Already heard some of it already.

That just about sums it up lol......might as well end this thread now smile

If I wanted to dog hunt, I would buy dogs and figure out a way to contain them to my hunting property. When somebody else's dogs run through my property, it takes away my choice of not running dogs. I've said it before and still believe it now - if you consistently have to retrieve your dogs off property other than yours, you don't give a damn about your dogs or the rights of the other property owners.

Give the dog hunters a special season like they did the bowhunters. Then, let them hunt the WMA's anytime they want to, like the bowhunters.

We already show preferential treatment for one group.
Why not another?

I'm gonna ban the next run-on sentence. That'll show 'em!

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Anyone that is so obsessed with killing a wood goat that they will shoot a dog that is wearing a collar is taking hunting a bit too seriously, IMO.

I'm not in favor of shooting someone's hunting dogs. I also am not in favor of someone's hunting dogs running wild while I'm trying to still hunt. However, the argument above seems to say "kill the hunter's dogs". After all, the dogs are doing the same thing coyotes do and there is a coyote kill thread on this site. Just saying...

Some dog hunters give the sport a bad name. These guys are outlaws. They turn loose on one side of a tract they don't have access to and stand the other. Run rampant on private property in search of their dogs. When asked "why do you need a gun?". The answer is always that you have to kill the deer to stop the dogs. I live in a county where the outlaws were so bad that dog hunting is now illegal. The message is fairly clear. Police your own ranks or the sport disappears.

Frustration causes some to retaliate. Shooting a dog is against the law also. IMHO both groups are outlaws. Just as guilty as spot lighters or those that shoot over the limit.

It was my pleasure to be in a dog club that did it right so I understand the enjoyment. The outlaws give both groups a bad name & give the antis ammunition.

I know of a few guys that were still hunters that got lucky cause the neighboring club ran dogs. The dog club ran the deer right by the still hunters. I seen a nice 12 pt killed off our land one time that ran a little over 7 miles from our club land and a still hunter shot it. I think that hunter was tickled to death. Maybe those that want to shoot dogs that run big deer by them should just let those big bucks run right on by them as well!!

??? I'm virtually certain no bow hunter ever interfered in any way with any of your hunts unless he was poaching on your land. Regarding "preferential treatment for one group" no one is excluding you from the group. If it chaps your ass that bad that bow hunters start in Oct., then I suggest you go get a bow and join us. That's exactly why I bought a bow to begin with, I realized I could hunt for roughly 5 or so more weeks if I did so. And oh yeah, want to hunt the WMA? It's open to all, just pay the $18 or whatever it is and knock yourself out.

What does anything you said have to do with dog hunters allowing their dogs to trespass?
