I consider our UPS guy a friend. If he's delivering something to us and sees my truck up at the farm, he'll stop and ask me if I need it at the barn or at the house. We actually gave him a small Christmas present last year.

I have a niece that drives for Fed Ex in Chattanooga and she works for an independent contractor, not much money at all considering, no union.
