You know I made a very bold statement before deer season began, that there was absolutely NO SUCH THING AS A DEER CURSE. Now the turkey voodoo, that stuff is real. I have never had a problem with a deer curse though, UNTIL I SAID THERE WAS NOT ONE. I have not been able to capitalize on opportunity since that statement was made, and I've had one buck I have been trying to kill for several years just totally rub it in my face twice this year. All I need is a misfire. MATT! will you ever learn??? You did the turkey voodoo curse...now you went a Jinxed your dang deer season..bad enough! But dang buddy...now you really did it! Now you gave yourself the CORELOCT curse! And YOU KNOW whats going to happen! Finally that big 8 year old youve been after is gonna step out...most likely..in a Greenfield at 3 pm...and stand there like a POSTCARD BUCK! Youre gonna think ..yep..the deer jinx is over...pull up and ..CLICK! Now the coreloct Jinx...a MISFIRE! and being the way things work..as he walks away..you work your bolt...chamber another and...CLICK...another misfire. Then the deer will leave the field..and the DEER JINX continue too! And the coreloct jinx beginning. Youll be shooting winchester balllistic tips by the end of the season!

I don't understand the aversion to quality ammo. Shoot whatever you want but why skimp on the cheapest part of the hunt? You could shoot the most expensive ammo made and it is still a lot cheaper for that shot than the gas it took to drive to your hunting spot. Absolutely no aversion to quality ammo. I've shot core lokts since I was 13, they perform well in my rifle, they have resulted in 100% kills and they just happen to be the cheapest. High powered rifles in 06 are all that I own. I hope to change this in the near future and I guarantee that I will experiment with a wide variety of different rounds. Now handgun ammo is a different story, that's where most of money is spent.

I've killed deer with about every bullet made for a 270. The core loct is the only bullet that i felt let me down. I had never even shot a CL round until a few years ago. My wife's cousin got me a box for Christmas. I sighted them in and went hunting. I killed 5 deer with them including an 8pt. I had to shoot the buck twice from 180 yards. One shot hit guts and the other hit lungs( idk which one was which) but neither exited. I shot 4 does from 30- 280 yards ( all broad side lung shots) and none exited. I was fortunate to find all 5 deer, but I had no blood trails to follow. I was just a matter of looking until i found them. Ill never use them again.

I've shot core lokts before and never had any problems, I've shot more expensive rounds and have never had a bullet failure to my memory, some deer were DRT with each round and some ran when they shouldn't have. I think it all depends on the adrenaline pumping through the deer at the moment their shot.
If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

Thats the primer not the bullet. That bullet isn't going to go anywhere with a dead primer
We will burn that bridge when we get there

It doesn't really matter to me.I guess I was talking more about someone complaining about $50 a box ammo when it's probably the cheapest piece of hunting equipment being used. I think most any bullet will work when a good shot is made. I don't hunt often and I might want take the one shot I have. I want to know I have a bullet that won't come apart if I decide to take that less than perfect shot.

I'm not trying to resurrect the oldest debate on aldeer, but I am curious to understand what the core-lokt naysayers expect out of the performance of a projectile. I have recovered a few core-lokts before, after hitting the CNS, or having a long trajectory through the entire length of a deer before. I finally decided to measure, and weigh one. I recovered a 150 grain in 30-06, that traveled from just in front of the back right hip, through the intestines, liver, lungs, and heart of a big doe, busted the offside shoulder, and was lodged just under the skin. The diameter had increased 2.86X the original diameter, to exactly 20 mm. The jacket expanded, exposing the lead core, which left a perfect mushroom. The weight of the projectile was 92.58 grains, or 62% of its original weight. This is fairly representative of what I see from the majority of them.
So how did this projectile, which cost less than $1/round, and shoots a sub MOA group perform inferior to a Barnes, Hornady, or some other fancy smancy round that cost $73/box? Simple. Marketing............They don't come in a pretty box.
