I stalk hunt using a 336 with a fixed 4X scope. My problem with iron sights is that sometimes I can't find a deer in the thick stuff and have to move my head around too much to see them.

I like peep sights, however I have a Winchester 30-30 Saddle Ring Carbine and the factory sights on it are some of the most user friendly on any rifle I have ever used. When I throw that rifle up to my shoulder, the sight picture is pretty much dead on. I couldn't imagine installing a scope or a peep sight on it.

I have never understood why we feel we need to dumb things down for kids. Kids are really smart and actually pick up new things faster than old guys like us do. If you don't believe me... Try learning to ride a skateboard or learning a new language in your 50's, then watch a kid pick it up...

Buy him a pellet gun and let him shoot it until the sights are second nature.

He's had a red rider for a year and is pretty accurate with it.

I like a peep but don't get too small an apeture. I had a Williams peep on a ml, I could shoot the center out of a paper plate at 100yds. Took it hunting out of a climber, had a buck at 40yds broad side & couldn't find that brown deer against the brown leaves for nothing. Shot & missed, after that I just unscrewed the apeture & used the ring. That worked much better for deer hunting. I did drill the apeture later so I could still see & still be accurate.
