Some jobs require OT,we have 2 shutdowns a year at our mill and we have to cover vacations,no way around it if you want to work there.Heres a question, how many hours a week do some of you hunt and fish?Do y'all take your families with you everytime you go?if you hunt in the morning and evenings that's prolly 6-8 hours of time spent away from your family if they're not with you,no different than the guy working an extra day IMO.When it comes down to it most folks don't want to work extra because it cuts into their playtime, not family time.

On an average weekend I can get 2 hunts in: either Friday pm & Saturday pm or Saturday am & pm.

My kids &/or wife are with me nearly every time. Exceptions being school/ball/illness, which are rare.

Sundays are spent at church.

Our staff works 5 -11' and the management usually works 5-12's plus 2-4 ten hour days during the weekend per month for about a 70 hr avg work week. We all are salary but get paid pretty well and travel hard for it.

I work 40 hours a week. Two 12's and two 8's so I'm off 3 days aevery week. We worked a lot of overtime the first half of 2015 due to being shorthanded and I'm glad it's behind us. A big mistake hourly guys make is basing their lifestyle on the average overtime they make in a year and they depend on that overtime to live.

I honestly think alot of employers are getting nervous about working people to death. We actually got Christmas Eve and are getting Good Friday off as paid holiday's for the first time in our companies 28 year history. I hope times are changing for the employee. Companies have halted raises, cut benefits, raised benefit costs, so time off is about the only thing they have left to barter with.

A VERY true statement. And that includes salary guys that get big bonuses.

All of that is because of Obamacare. The average profit margin of an average business has shrunk about 40-60% since that asshat got into office.

I averaged around 42 hours this year. I take off every chance I'm given.

Plenty of opportunity to work more and make 40k to 50k more a year. It's not worth it to me. I have been slowly reducing debt over the last two years where I don't feel the need for more all the time.

One day when work is gone(by my choosing or thiers or death) my family will still be here and know for certain I love them.

I have friends who have mentioned this to their employers and been told straight up, "That's the way it is." The clear implication being: if you don't like it, find another job and we'll find someone else to work to the bone and when they leave we'll find another one, and so on. Too many employers today IMO figure their employees are disposable or the job market is too thin and they won't leave. Or both.
