That was me alright! And even though he wasn't still in the trap I forgot one other critter I had that was dead. I caught a flying squirrel in a dp a couple years ago that was dead.

AUcoonhunter wanted the skin to tan and use as a loin cloth! Lol!

Jon I see where the trappers out West catch rabbits in their sets pretty often. When I first started trapping there weren't many rabbits around and now I guess maybe me running my pan tension a little tight keeps them from tripping my sets.

The coyote could've easily been killed by dogs. I know they used to sull in the fox pens and the dogs would kill them quick. I'm really surprised that I haven't had a fox killed by the coyotes. I've seen several catch circles that they paced around checking them out.

Well we started the new year off right this morning with a catch. Another grey fox at the same set we caught 4 greys in a couple weeks ago. 5 grey fox in this one set absolutely blows my mind. It's a compass set that is on the trail going to our gut pile. Amanda is fired up now and wants some coon traps out to run too! Lol!

All I had was a gray fox this morning. I know it ain't the best picture in the world but it was the best I can do at the time. I'm hoping to get in the coyotes on this farm.

Thanks Hank, I got a couple dozen ready to go. I still have a couple dozen left to go. All I need now is for things to dry out just a little so I can get to some of my better spots.

I hear ya! Man I ran into a mess with the double long springs I just finished up. I bought two dozen Vic #3's and added baseplates, shock springs, new swivels, 10' of chain, drags and added a 3 1/2" pan to them. I just got them back from my welder welding all my connections. The problem is with the added weight of the big pan and no pan tension adjustment they will literally fire on their own. I seriously doubt I could sift dirt over them without them firing.

I did some research this morning and found a trigger system called a Miles trigger that I'm going to try on them. It's actually just 2 notches filed into the dog and pan that latch together giving pan tension and supposedly a really sharp, crisp trigger. The deeper the notches the more tension.

I hope it works because I've already sank a good chunk of change into these traps and mama says my trapping budget is running thin on her patience already! Lol!

Just came in from setting Amanda 16 dp coon traps to run. We've got customers begging for coons so hopefully she can catch some this week.

Nothing for us! Had 2 sets worked but neither of them found the pan.

Hayden caught a coon in the FB 1's we bought him for Christmas this morning.

Caught two more gray fox this morning. I had a coyote and a gray fox yesterday but my phone died when I went to take pictures of the fox. Here are the pictures of the two fox from this morning and coyote from yesterday. The coyote picture don't do the old girl justice, she is a big old heifer.

Here is the coyote from yesterday

I move them away from the catch area to dispatch them. It may not make a hill of beans difference but I prefer not to have blood around my trap. If I have my traps set on one side of the road I'll move them 20-30 feet from my sets to dispatch.

Nice pics guys. What's the story on that pole jon. Home made or did you buy it? I saw a lot of sign yesterday while hunting so I need to find time to set some traps. One area had a pile of old scat in a logging road with a bunch of scratches around it in a circle like he walked around it scratching dirt back to spread his scent I guess. How would you guys set that, a flat set with urine or some kind of scent post set. There is no backing or anything around it is basically in the middle of the road. It's a private road near a food plot so no one really drives past there. It had to be really fresh because of all the rain we had.

Charlie try a compass set if there isn't anything to use for backing. It's worked for me on 5 fox so far.

Good idea. I've read about a compass set but never used one. I will try it first chance I get.

Charlie I bought the catch pole, I can put you in touch with the guy if your interested in one. This one is 5 foot but I think a 4 foot one would work better. This one is pretty heavy.

Good catches lately. I have not had any out for a couple weeks, due to weather and work. I put out 5 sets today on a small tract of land at the edge of town. Hope to have something this week.
Once deer season ends I have several invites to run all the traps I want. Only thing about that is that I'll only have a couple weeks until trapping season ends since deer urns till Feb 10.
