So I mentioned in another thread about how much I love my saddle ring carbine, but the main reason I don't hunt with it much is that it has no sling mounts on it, and I don't want to put any on it. So I was searching around and thinking of making a scabbard for it out of leather so I could carry it on my back or some such thing.

I had always assumed that the "Saddle Ring" was so the cavalry soldier could secure the rifle in it's scabbard to the side of the saddle so it wouldn't bounce out while at a full gallop... I had no idea that the ring was/is actually an attachment point for a single point sling! Hell! Who knew?

So now I'm going to make me a leather sling instead of a scabbard.

Pretty cool...

That's what I was thinking. What is so stupid, is that I just built an AR-15 in 7.62x39 and I ordered a single point sling and ring for it when I built it, but it never even occurred to me to use the ring on the Winchester for the same reason. slap Duh!

Anyway so now I'm looking for an old leather belt and a sliding spring loaded clip to outfit the Saddle Ring Carbine...

I like the Magpul MS3 and MS4 as they can convert from 1 point to 2 point very easily.
I'm always a fan of options.
What sling did you go with?

Unless you're just dead set on making your own (like I usually am!), they have the slings, swivels, and muzzle sockets pretty reasonable here...

Nice, but I don't really need anything that authentic looking. I'll probably just get a decent leather belt for a fat guy and get a sliding hook for it.

Same site has the sliding hooks, too.
