Deer are survivors and quick adapters. It's just not possible to compare Alabama with the Midwest. I promise that our deer are not more intelligent than other deer. They just get shot at for 2.5 months straight here. When gun season opens up in Ohio those deer go on lockdown. You might see 10 deer the first day and 1 the second day of gun season. They don't have as many places to hide in tye midwest either. 99% of the properties in the Midwest don't have people lined up to hunt them from November-January. Makes a huge difference. In Alabama everyone wants to hunt opening day because some of the deer haven't caught on yet and your chances are higher. It doesn't take long for them to figure it out and lock down there daytime movement. Also, I believe that Alabama has a lot more people that say screw the law, if I want to shoot a deer in June I'm going to do it.

When the weather is below freezing every day and food is very scarce the deer become more predictable. We don't have that advantage in Alabama.

Being able to hunt every day for 4-5 months is great and I wouldn't change it but it also makes us amazing educators to these deer.
