I've killed several bucks taking the same shot Matt did, usually resulting in dead right there deer. That kind of shot is why I don't use a small gun with fast expanding bullets for deer, esp big deer. A 270Win with Nosler Partitions will kill the snot out of deer with that shot. Done it, seen it done, got blood on my t-shirt.....

My rule is to shoot a gun/cartridge/bullet combo that will kill any size deer at any range, any angle...every time. Sometimes, like in Matts case, that rear end shot is ALL a big buck will give you.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I understand that you are an experienced hunter, but I can not for the life of me understand you defending such a shot on a forum where many look up to you because of your job and position. Just think of all the deer that will be shot in the ass and lost because of you.

And don't even get me started on this was not the deer you thought it was, because that is a whole 'nother story and mistake on your part.

Wow. Where to start...

1). People like you are why killers like Matt don't share much with the general public.

2). Matt has NEVER tried to be anything other than what he is: a killer. He ain't telling GenPop to go take that shot. He never said that. Matt has fired more rounds at deer than most hunters shoot off of a bench at a paper target in a lifetime.

He ain't filming a TV show with Lee and Tiffany. He was trying to kill a deer that he's hunted for 4 years. A deer that he has seen several times this year for only a few seconds each time that he saw him. I KNOW that he DID NOT SHOOT at the deer earlier this year due to what he felt was a questionable shot. I personally told him that he needed to quit looking and shoot the damn deer the next time he saw him.

I'm not sure just how much experience you have with mature deer, but they DO NOT act like any other deer. They do not stay still very long. Matt had the shot. Matt took the shot. Matt, with the help of Mike, Lucy, and several more people, FOUND THE DEER.

Is a deer walking straight away from you an Outdoor Channel shot? Nope. BUT THIS AIN'T REALITY TV SLICK. This is real world deer hunting. Matt gave the unedited truth. The shot he took is a lethal shot.

3) "this wasn't the deer you thought it was and that was another mistake on your part" : I actually laughed out loud at that statement. Have you ever spent much time dealing with mature deer? Like on planet earth? I'm asking here....

As a side note, I'm willing to bet Matt won't be sharing anymore deer kills with us. Hope that clown didn't ruin it for everyone. Said it already n I'll say it again, congrats Matt on making the shot and following through with the recovery thumbup

Matt is real.

The story of the hunt and the recovery was real.

The shot was a real life scenario. He made the shot and got his deer.

Don't even get me started on the Morals and Ethics aspect BS that this clown is spewing. The goal is to KILL the deer......not take Family portraits for it to hang in his little grass hut house at Disney Land! That junk is for babies and they outgrow it soon after getting weaned off the teat and eating fresh meat!!!

Congrats again, Matt!

If Mike and Lucy are not available and Matt needs a tracking dog...A tracking dog will be sent. Even if it has to be my 10yr old Weiner dog!!!! Although it will take awhile because he will have to stop every 10 steps to take a piss.

Excellent comments you provided in your replies.

Matt,

Thanks for sharing. As usual, I've learned some good, positive things that I am adding to my limited knowledge of deer hunting.

To all the naysayers,

Keep your negative thoughts to yourself. Here at AlDeer we've got a pretty good group of folks for the most part. While you do have 1st Amendment rights, don't think for a second that you won't get some hellacious feedback from us when you attack one of our own. Unlike mainstream America, we won't sit idly by and allow you to throw one of our own under the bus.

I recommend you take a big step back, be quiet, and see what you can LEARN from folks like Matt Brock.

Hollywud may have to correct some details, but basically he sends me a text message a couple hours after I shot the deer explaining how he just stopped a guy from shooting a buck making his way across an open field, literally just a few hundred yards from where I had shot mine. I brushed it off as a different deer. It wasn't. Once we got Lucy on the trail she tracked the deer to the exact spot where HW saw that buck standing from the road. Some jackleg was about to shoot him from the truck window.

It's a wonder deer ever get over 3-4 years old living where we do. People will shoot a deer anywhere, anytime they can. Y'all don't understand when I say everybody hunts around here. That is very cool he stopped a guy from poaching your deer!!!

Globe if a deer is visible from the road it's getting shot. Every time around here. I've never seen anything like it. This guy was going to shoot that deer with 4 houses within a couple hundred yards.
