Unless your friend has the skill, ability and knowledge to lift (the easy part) and then classify prints (very few LEOs know how to do this) and then have access to the database he's not doing anything with the prints. Keep in mind, even if he got a usable print and was able to classify it, the person that left the bullet would have to have been printed before and have a print in the database. There is no lab in America, unless you are willing to dish our big dollars to a private one, that would have the time or resources for a misdemeanor fishing expedition so I hope you have calmed down a little now and realize this. Please don't ask your friend to do this and make him either tell you "no" or have unrealistic expectations from him.
In the end, there won't be anyway to prosecute on that simple bullet on a misdemeanor charge. Even if you proved someone held the bullet, there is no way to prove they were the last one to hold it and place it on the tractor.
Sorry to be a buzzkill, if you haven't realized this already.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Probably hunted from the seat of the tractor and set it up there while unloading at dark, or hunted without one in the chamber just sitting out so if someone walked up on them they could knock it off the tractor and say they were not hunting cause the did not have any bullets. That may explain it.

Sorry to be a buzzkill, if you haven't realized this already. It's someone that's not police or other very known agencies. Can't give much more info. They have worked in the pentagon and is a relative. I just want to know who it was and he has the resources to try. I know I can't prosecute but I will be able to confront them and tell em to stay off.

Sounds like a terroristic threat. Keep your head on a swivel, someone's gonna frag you. Better watch your 6....or maybe they seen that big buck pic you posted...seems that whoever did it wanted you to find it...wasting your time looking for prints... IMO Why wasting my time if it's free and he's wanting to do it. And do you really think he wanted me to find it. I thought he may he hiding it on the hood. And yea. Things started happening when I posted that pic. Owned this land 7 years and never seen a single sign of anyone in it. Now they are fourwheeler tracks all over it. It's someone that knows my back is broke and I can't hunt and won't be over there much. But now about 8 folks have permission to hunt as long as they look out for who it is.

Keep us updated on this one please. I'm not expecting much. I figure to catch them other ways. Just thought the fingerprint would be cool if it worked.

i'm still confused on what you plan to do when you get this finger print. (getting the finger print off the casing seems like the easy part)
are you expecting it to pop up on a database like Law & Order?
Or do you plan on rounding up everyone on the neighboring property and sitting them down and finger printing them? I can go tell him not to come on my land again.

Just give me my bullet back and we'll call it even.
On a serious note, could it have been your neighbor? Maybe his property is being poached on also and he found the bullet & saw your tractor near the line and thought maybe it was you. So he sat the bullet that he found on your tractor to let you know that he caught you. I know that's a little far fetched, but it's possible. I just don't see why a poacher would intentionally let you know that he was hunting your ground. It may be worth a shot to get in touch with the neighbor. I've talked to the adjoining land owners and they said they had had tracks of trespassers too.
