Read somewhere, maybe on here, that wasp spray would work as well or better than pepper spray. I ask because my 16-year-old daughter was coming home from school play practice last night and a freaking derelict approached her car at a stop light. She's obviously too young to legally have a firearm in the car. It rattled her. He wanted her to roll down the window. She wasn't and was watching traffic and was going to run the light to get away from him if she had to. She also had our 14-year-old neighbor in car and he knows karate but still. She has planned an alternate route so she doesn't have to go that way again. I'm pissed. I think it's the same bum I gave $10 to a year ago because she insisted after he said he was hungry. Neighbor came in right behind that and berated me for helping him. Said he's a substance abuser. I just want my girl feeling safe and being safe. I put her a big ol can of wasp spray in the car last night.

I don't know but anything that kills that quick would have to burn I would think. Just remember it is likely to get in the car as well maybe even splash in her eyes if she is trying to spray with the window cracked.

I'm sure it would work as a deterrent, but I wouldn't want her rolling down her window to use it. Her car is her safe place.
Tell her to use it as a last ditch effort to thwart an attack.

Yeah we told her she handled it exactly right. Keep the doors locked and don't roll down windows for any stranger. Call 911 if she had to. Just want her to have something. What if this creep had hit the window and broken it? I may ride in the back like a trunk monkey one night next week and see if he tries this crap again. Also going to tell police chief about it. I think this guy works that area.

Just buy her some pepper spray or bear mace.

I put a can in my wife's and daughter's cars years ago after a law enforcement friend told me that it was better than pepper spray and the stream will reach out to 20'.

This. I attend several live shooter and life safety seminars yearly. And wasp spray is highly recommended by law enforcement agencies as an intruder or aggressor deterent. If you or a family member are not allowed to have firearm on the property where you work get and keep a can of wasp spray at your work space.

Wasp spray works, but not as effective as pepper spray. There is a reason LE agencies use pepper spray. There are very few creatures, human or otherwise, that it won't incapacitate. There a million stories about officer spraying a subject and it didn't affect them, but 99.9% of those are because it didn't get in the eyes or to the lungs. That stuff is bad enough if it just gets on the skin.

Make sure your daughter realizes, and makes sure everyone that rides with her realizes, that even using wasp spray when not justified, is a serious criminal offense. The law just says "noxious substance" and wasp spray would qualify if intentionally sprayed on someone.

I would use bear strength pepper spray. If she gets it on herself (and she most likely will if she has to use it), she won't be poisoning herself with highly toxic petroleum distillates. Pepper spray burns like hell but you get over it in an hour or two.

Jawbone I was at a training class once with Jeff Co. They had an officer that got sprayed in the face at 1 foot, he turned and ran from 50 to the 7 yard line and shot the center out of a target. I saw it.

just remember that what it does to an assailant it does to you also if ya get spray on yer face. Baaaad stuff.

The use of wasp spray is taught in womens defense classes. It shoots 15 ft, and when sprayed in attackers face it blinds them till they get to a hospital for antidote. No one can attack if they are blind. It just like a gun doesn't attack anyone just because its in a car.

Troy I know you've seen videos of peple under the influence that don't react the desired way when sprayed with pepper spray either. Not everyone is the same.

The post directly above you from a source that many respect said an officer was sprayed and blew out the center of the target.

But that's right, you have me on ignore because you hate hearing anything contrary to what you preach.

I'll also add that when I was sprayed I couldn't of hit the inside wall of a barn from inside the barn...for quite a while. I did, however, want to kill the sob that sprayed me.......
