I would reduce membership to a level of about 3 spots per hunter. So if you had 6 in on the lease you'd need a minimum of 18 stand sights. If you can only support 15 stands I'd go down to 5 members and so forth. Forget anyone ever told you a 1 per 100 acre rule.
Get rid of people who have too much time to hunt. Get rid of all the doe killers. Get rid of all the people with kids that need to shoot something every time they go so they won't get "bored".
Then stop calling it a club and people will stop asking you if they can join. They'll be asking. You'll have a real nice place at that point.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

This is precisely why I have not yet been able to bring myself to join a "club". I'd rather hunt public land and not see a single deer than have to deal with this kind of bs. It's obvious that what you want is your own property. I would think that you could lease a pretty decent place for 7k. You should definitely leave the club, lease your own place, make your own rules, and hunt as much or as little as you choose. Forcing others out, who are obeying existing rules, just because you don't like the way things are being done is just WRONG.
Not trying to be a jerk, just offering my opinion, which you asked for. Obviously you didn't pay attention to my original post. The club has too much pressure, do we cut membership or limit the number of days the club is hunted was the only questions asked. Me saying I was willing to pay $7k was in response to me being called greedy, which I'm not but kinda remember why I don't post much on here. People not paying attention to the thread, putting their own interpretation of my question. Lastly, I didn't ask your opinion on how to spend my money, and I am trying to be a jerk, put your opinion where it belongs!
That's all I've got to say about that.....FG

Since you asked......it sounds to me like y'all have a pretty good thing as it is. I've hunted some of the finest land around for 30 years and have not killed 2 140+" bucks (only one) and never seen a 198" deer in the wild. It doesn't set well with me that the minority of the club is going to run the majority off. Perhaps the minority should leave the club intact and go find their own land to lease or perhaps the majority should band together and run the minority off, which is something they should have within their power to do. Sorry, but this thing smells awful crappy to me, but you asked.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

People not paying attention to the thread, putting their own interpretation of my question. Lastly, I didn't ask your opinion on how to spend my money, and I am trying to be a jerk, put your opinion where it belongs! Yes I did pay attention to your 1st post. I also paid attention to your 2nd, 3rd, and 5th posts which are the ones that tell the story. A total of 4-6 members of your club, which according to my math is a minority, are contemplating a "coup d'etat" of your hunting club and you came here looking for moral support. You've determined that "hunting pressure" has caused your hunting experience to be less than satisfactory. You've acknowledged that there have been some changes to the habitat courtesy of the timber company but the unacceptable quality of the hunt is definitely the result of pressure by too many hunters doing too much hunting. Predation is certainly not a factor, and it is not possible that deer pattern hunters whether there are 1 or 14 and there is no way that your neighbors could be making their property more inviting than yours. No, the problem is there is too much "pressure" and the solution is to get rid of club members or restrict hunting days or both. You may well be right, I have no idea, maybe there is too much pressure. Maybe the club should not have admitted the 4 additional members. You certainly did not have to do that but you did and now you don't like the results so you want to "correct" the mistake by jacking up the rates knowing that the poor schmuck who really can't afford it already but does anyway will have to say goodbye. Do what you want, spend what you want, stay or go, I could care less. If you want to make changes then the ONLY right way to do it is to call ALL club members to a voting meeting and vote on any and all proposed changes with majority rule. This of course will not work if what you have is not actually a club, a club being a group of equals engaged in common interests, but a "deer hunting kingdom" in which all rule and authority rests with one or a few people Do you even understand that this really has nothing to do with deer hunting and everything to do with liberty and tyranny? P.S. I put my opinion precisely where YOU asked for it. If you didn't want it you should not have asked.

Go up on dues. Do not limit days to hunt. Less members usually means less pressure if land amount stays the same.

If it were just I, I would only have 2 members and pay $7k a year.
If it were just about greed or me, like I said in another post, I would spend $7k and only have 2 members.
yea, that don't sound greedy or selfish at all

If you want to decrease pressure cut some members. As for how to do that I'd leave that up to the club president and officers. If are not in any of those positions I wouldn't be concerned with the issue.

bucksmacker1313, I am curious. 1) Is your name on the lease since before you all decided to become a "club"? 2) Have all 14 of the members been hunting on this property for the entire 15 years that you mentioned, or have new members joined over the years? 3) Since you mentioned that other club members have suggested a different strategy to improve the hunting there, what do your bylaws say about making group decisions?
Based on some of the responses you're getting, it sounds as if some on here are assuming that you're working back channels and are trying to run off people and keep an elitist group of your choosing. But, you said, "We are discussing a few changes". So, I'm going to make an assumption and say that all of your members are talking about what to do as an entire club. To me it does not sound like you and some "inner circle" are being underhanded. You asked what ALDEER thought about your suggestions on improving hunting there. My thoughts are, I'm always in favor of fewer members in any club, but I also don't think its fair to force anyone out, unless they're blatantly breaking rules and bylaws and have no regard for other members. Having polarizing options can sure wreak havoc in a small group like yours. I think its good that all of you are discussing it as a group.

restricting hunting days sounds good ...until you actually try and implement it. Won't work - when a guy paying wants to hunt, he should be able to. Weather, jobs, retirement, and home situation dictate when a lot of people can go, not dates on a calendar. What will be really embarrassing is when two guys show up at the gate on a "closed" day thinking they could get away with it... raise the dues until you price 7 members out.

Thanks to all who submitted opinions on the original questions. I appreciate all the PM's and constructive answers. To all others, well..........I guess you should have read all my answers. Seems some of you focused on the response about me being greedy and would spend "$7k if it were all about me", the part you missed is may stating I/We the collective 4-6. Minority ya da ya, guess you didn't know the President and officers were part of the 4-6. I guess you read past the point about if it were up to seniority I could be out but wanted what was best for the club. We thought putting it on AlDeer would give honest opinions, not bashing the originator of the quetion. Tyrany, Coup etc was mentioned but I digress, We have made a decision to up the dues and let natural attrition take place. Not that any of you sumbitches that think you know everything about running clubs matters but I really don't give two chits. Smells and your troll name and can take a small leap off a tall cliff, hopefully in a pile of chit.
That's all I've got to say about that.....FG

bucksmacker1313, I am curious. 1. Lease in only in the President's name 2. No, only 4-5 are apart of the original 15 years. 3. We have suggestions that are agreed upon by the President and officers, with input from other members 4.I'm not trying to run off anyone. Original "club" had 7 members, we have added through friends etc... We have added too many people, IMO. There is no inner circle, I/We have brought up the concerns and the whole group has a say. Some want to up the dues to have less membership, some want to limit the number days of hunting. Again, the reason I asked my original question. Looking for feedback from some ALDeer members that may have gone through similar scenarios. Again, I can't be clear enough, if we cut to 6 people and if I didn't have the seniority to stay, I would be ok with that. Again, that makes me a greedy person somehow???? As far as breaking rules, we only have 1 person, we are aware of breaking the rules.
Thank You for honest opinions without being judgmental and asking real questions.
