Limit should be 2 per day no more than one which is banded.

Shooting dogs is illegal. So is spotlighting, hunting over corn, littering and shooting road signs. All are public relations nightmares for the law abiding hunters and ammunition for the anti hunters. The law seems to support my belief that these individuals engaging in these acts are outlaws. Depending on the circumstances, shooting dogs is not illegal and neither is shooting people. "The Law" actually offered to loan me a gun to handle our problem.

This thread isn't about dogs attacking livestock or people. It is about shooting dogs that are perceived to be ruining a hunt. That is illegal. The actions of an outlaw, slob hunter. So everyone that kills a tresspassing dog is a slob hunter?? Sounds like a the typical dog owner. Nothing is ever their fault. Dog owners think its OK for dogs to just run all over the place and its OK because their - Mans Best Friend?? Well quess what. Some people WILL NOT TOLERATE a bunch of damn dogs tresspassing on their property! Agreed. We used to have a neighbor's cat that kept on climbing on the hood of my wife's brand new car. I talked to the neighbor about it. He didn't do anything. I put out the Haveahart trap baited with some tuna. Kitty lives in another zip code now. Scratching the heck out of some else's car now...

Well, the alternative was skinning 3 inches of rubber off of a power outlet cord, placing it inside of a cardboard box just in front of a can of tuna. Cut a cathead-sized hole in the front of the box. Plug in the power cord and ...ZZZZZZZAAAAPPPP! KFC.

Your incident of shooting dogs harassing/killing livestock is well within your rights. ![beers beers](/forum/images/graemlins/default/beer-1.gif) The law clearly supports your actions. However those promoting the SSS protocol are by definition outlaws and I consider them slob hunters.

I run into this a lot where I hunt. Just the other day had the two locals dog pack follow me into my spot and bark at me for 10 minutes straight right at daybreak. They lost interest and wandered back from where they came. Missed a big 8 point an hour or so later. I was sulking the whole time in the stand thinking about how these dang dogs ruined my hunt and I wasted an hours drive to see nothing, then bang, big boy comes running right at me. Yep...same thing with me last year, except I was in the tree settled in and here they come. They stood there barked a little and left....hour later here come big boy...Bang. They dont bother me unless they show aggression when Im in the woods.

We don't care what you consider us, you aren't considerate to hunters or dogs when you don't take care of your dog. I wish they had a law to lock up slobs that own dogs and don't care for them. Can't you see some of the guys that are posting this are dog owners and they are sick of it too. If anyone is a slob its dog owners that can;t handle their business. Don't complain when someone does what you either can't or won't.

My dogs are safely in their kennels where they belong. ![thumbup thumbup](/forum/images/graemlins/default/grinning-smiley-003.gif) I have way too much time and money invested in them to let them roam. Exactly! Our two dogs live indoors, with us. If they're outside, we're outside. Both are trained and well-behaved, and respond when you tell them to come back, or cast them off in another direction other than the road.

I stopped by the house of the land owner of one of my leases the other day to ask about some activity on the property. While I was waiting for him to come to the door I counted 12 dogs laying in or walking around his yard. Do I like it that he has this huge pack; no. Would I ever shoot one of them; hell no. Theres been many times a couple of them have trailed me to my stand or chased each other or sometimes a deer by me. They don't ruin my hunt its just something else to watch when I'm in the tree. Neighboring land owner on another lease has a bunch of field trial competition dogs. Sometimes they are annoying as hell to listen to when they get wound up in their pens. One of them got loose a couple of years ago and ran one of the biggest deer I've ever seen in my life up the bottom past me. Would I shoot that one? Not that one either. Its just not worth losing a lease over or ticking off a neighboring land owner. This actually happened years ago on some land that a buddy of mine and I were hunting for free. It was a prime piece of land with lots of deer. The only thing about the place was the land owner let another guy run rabbits on the place. No big deal to me I didn't care. One day my buddy was hunting and a dog comes sniffing around him and wouldn't leave so he hauls off and shoots it and leaves it lay in the woods. Turns out it was one of the rabbit guys dogs that he couldn't round up the day before. He came back and found the dead dog that afternoon. That was the end of us hunting 400 acres of prime land for free, or at all. Lesson learned.
What you do today, you have to sleep with tonight.
