speaking of containment, my black mouth cur broke her cable the other day and ran after a farm truck that had heelers in the bed, barking at her. now, i had just checked the cable; didn't see any bad spots, but i obviously missed one. my fault. as soon as she saw me in the yard, she came running. now, what if she had gone across the road, into a pasture, and then on to someone's lease, where a butthole in a tree stand shoots her. for a single failure by me to catch a frayed/twisted spot on a 40-foot cable. how can the butthole possibly justify that? some of you guys are way more mouth than brain ... You said it yourself. It's your fault. No justification needed.

Wrong! There are currently no laws that a dog owner can break by letting his dogs get on a lease that he has no access to. There are no repercussions or penalties for him. Sinking to their level doesn't make anyone a better person. In my county, the outlaws were so bad that running deer with dogs is now illegal. There are legal steps that can be taken. Becoming what you hate isn't positive IMHO. I agree. I don't condone shooting dogs for any reason other than they are being aggressive. I firmly and strongly believe that a man has a right to have no dogs on his property if that's what he wants. The go to hell attitude of a large percentage (not all of them mind you), will eventually get it shut down. MTeague's brother was on here a few weeks ago bragging about getting on other peoples land and one club 7 miles from his killing a big buck in front of his dogs. He's part of the problem. Are you sure? I believe you've got him confused with someone else Maybe so. If so I apologize to him. You were right MTeague, the person who said that was Jdawg. I apologize for attributing that comment to him. Your brother did say some things in that thread I disagree with, but he didn't say the "7 mile" thing. I was wrong for that.

Ok...here's another side of the same situation. Years ago, I had a young German Shepherd. Good looking dog, very friendly, but he was big and intimidating looking and he was also about the dumbest animal God has ever stretched a patch of fur over. He got loose one day while I was gone, and when I came home, he was tied to a tree in my yard with a torn up jacket that wasn't mine. I took the jacket and went around to all the neighbors until I found who it belonged to, and offered to pay for the jacket, thinking he had pulled it off of a clothes line or something...she said the jacket was already torn up, she was going to use it for rags, and declined payment for it. Then I asked her if he'd bothered her or her kids when he came over. Turns out, he DID try to get something off the clothes line, didn't bother her or the kids, but she was very unsure about him when she first saw him in the yard. I told her..."if he ever comes back and bothers you, or your kids, or your stuff, get a gun and shoot him. He is supposed to be a pet, but if he's going to start making a nuisance of himself, he's overstepping and I have no use for him. There won't be any hard feelings, just let me know so I'll stop putting out food for him!" Of course, she replied that she could never kill my dog, but I told her to rest assured that if some random dog wandered onto my property and started tearing things up, I wouldn't hesitate to do him in. *LOL* Couple of months later, I had the exterminator over, spraying around the house, and he made the comment that that sure was a pretty dog...I told him to load that SOB up and take him with him...he did, so that problem got solved!

This thread makes me sad. Cold hearted mf'ers. I'll be happy to warm your heart with pictures of my wife's calf muscles detached and lying on the ground next to her while she bled out. All of the dogs that got her were wearing collars and there wasn't a pit bull in the bunch. Multiple owners, all local. ALL of those dogs are dead now. Cold hearted my ass.

This thread isn't about dogs attacking livestock or people. It is about shooting dogs that are perceived to be ruining a hunt. That is illegal. The actions of an outlaw, slob hunter. I thought this thread was about what happens to free range dogs. You can try to dodge the real issue but its not going to change the fact that the owner of a free range dog doesn't care enough about the dog or anyone else to deserve a dog.

So everyone that kills a tresspassing dog is a slob hunter?? Sounds like a the typical dog owner. Nothing is ever their fault. Dog owners think its OK for dogs to just run all over the place and its OK because their - Mans Best Friend?? Well quess what. Some people WILL NOT TOLERATE a bunch of damn dogs tresspassing on their property! Agreed. We used to have a neighbor's cat that kept on climbing on the hood of my wife's brand new car. I talked to the neighbor about it. He didn't do anything. I put out the Haveahart trap baited with some tuna. Kitty lives in another zip code now.

Someone who lived nearby used to have 2 dobermans, and I used to get pictures of them all the time in my food plots, not on a lease, on my property...I had probably 50 pictures of them actively chasing deer! We were standing outside my Dad's house, one day, and mentioned that I was going to handle that situation, since requests that the owners keep them contained hadn't worked. This was before we got the pics of them chasing deer...'Huntress called me down for saying I'd shoot them, saying that I couldn't prove the dogs were chasing the deer. She no sooner got that out of her mouth, than a doe comes running across the yard from behind my Dad's barn, with 2 dobies in hot pursuit!
Now, these were neighbors who sent one of my Siberian Huskys who accidentally got out of the kennel one day back home with a bullet hole through his shoulder, so with that understanding of our "rules of engagement", the dobies no longer chase deer on my land.
