Better yet, let me ask you this, what recourse do we have to deal with these dogs?

I have a place where I've seen dogs 4 of the 6 times I've hunted this year. It's the same 3 dogs each time, and I know who owns them. After the first time, I went and put a note on his door asking him to keep them up. The third time I saw them, he was at about 1000 yds working on his driveway where it crosses the power line. He let them out, and they took off my direction, spent several hours running deer, walking around my fields, etc. then. Went home. The last time I saw them, they came running out of the woods and spooked 4 does. Then about an hour later they came running through pushing a deer. About another hour later they came back through pushing a different deer. Every deer I saw that day was affected by them. At that point I tried to catch them because I was gonna take them to the pound as far away from there as I could. They took off running as soon as I got close. So what should I do next time??? What recourse do u have? The owner obviously doesn't care about them....

My licenses costs about 40 dollars. Is this a trick question?

The same recourse as you have for any crime. 1.) Get evidence. 2.) Prosecute the owner. 3.) Profit.

Do you truly think the dogs had some sort of bad intention toward you? Do you think they even knew you were there?

Do you think they were doing anything other than trying to make a living as a dog and doing the best they could with what they have to work with?

You can probably legally shoot them.

You can not legally shoot them. You can't sue them, because that takes more of your time and money to pursue. Not only that but the vast vast majority don't have enough money to be worth sueing. And you cannot legally have them cited because it isn't against the law.

Hopefully you are joking with the $40 comment. But I'll break it down for you. Let's say an average lease is $1500. You have another $250 wrapped up in specific costs for license, ammo, etc. add in fuel costs for a season. One time costs for equipment that is reusable. Just at face value you would tally up $100+ a hunt for an average hunters expense. And that isn't including the value of their time. Now let's put it in perspective. How much damage does a single deer do to a farmers crop? Probably not as much $ as a dog does to a hunter. Yet farmers can get permits to eradicate the deer.

A dog is an extension of its owner. It is the owners responsibility. Your liberal ass would be opposed to reprimanding a first grader for cussing I assume???? They don't know any better and I'm sure they picked the words up from their parents, so technically it isn't their fault...... Smdh

And your too busy to take it up with a court of law?

Then quit yer b!tchin. If it's important enough to take a life over, then it's important enough to spend a little time making things right.

Or, in your case - maybe not.

You're something. Why should it be my responsibility to spend the money and time on a lawyer and court costs, when I would never receive any of it back, regardless of whether I won the suit? Have any idea how much it would cost? Doe killer would have a better idea, but u can pretty much tell you, you aren't taking a lawyer with you to court for less than $5k. Why should I have the responsibility of paying that much money and my associated loss of income through time spent, to enforce someone else' responsibilities ?

Because that's how the law works?

You're really that dense?

I've killed more dogs than parvo. I don't remember ever killing one while hunting but I've thought about it. I've killed several in the cow pasture. I've had so many problems with dogs harassing and injuring cattle if one is in the pasture and even looks funny at a cow, it dead.

No one on this thread has suggested that dog owners have the right to let their animals roam. IMHO there should be legal and financial repercussions for the irresponsible pet owners and dog hunters. There are currently no such laws on the books. They are guilty of inconsideration. Change the laws if you want.

SSS stands for Slob, Slob, Slob. It is taking the easy way out. No different than hunting over corn because it is easier than finding and hunting a deer. No different than spotlighting because it is easier than killing a deer in the daylight. No different than throwing out trash because someone doesn't want to carry it to the trashcan. All these acts ARE illegal and do carry legal and financial repercussions. Many slobs participate in these acts and most are never caught.

An ethical sportsman encountering a problem works within the law to resolve the situation. Outlaws and slobs take the easy road.

There will be many that will give the examples of dog attacks and protecting livestock as examples. These particular areas are addressed by law and killing a dog under these circumstances is legal and warranted. Killing a dog running under your deer stand is not.

Got dogs running on my place in Marshall County this morning. I only have 13 acres and this may not end well for them. I've warned the dogs owner time and time again.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Dogs ARE still going to get shot for tresspassing. I really dont see the problem with shooting them! It really easy for the dog owner to say = Dont shoot dogs, take the legal method. Because THEY dont have to put up with the problems of dogs on their propertys. So sit there and try = to be all high and mighty , better than you if you like. Tresspassing dogs will keep on dying from lead poision! thumbup

Suggesting that abiding by the law is "high and mighty" seems a stretch. Pointing out that you are breaking the law and taking the easy way out will continue as long as SSS doctrine is spouted! thumbup

Fish all you and Geno have done is condemn the hunters. You have no remedies or anger for owners that don't do their part. You only bitch about the hunters. If a hunter has contacted the owner several times what do you expect ? If the owner doesn't care why should you ?

Dogs owners will continue to let dogs roam others property like it's their own. Those dogs will continue to be shot by those with a problem. The dog owners will continue to bitch about dogs being killed.

Let's go back and look at the first sentence and the start of the problem. If people would have respect for their neighbors and understand this the problem would go away.

- you want to use your property for dogs to run
- your neighbor wants to use his land for hunting and be free from dogs, it doesn't matter if dog owners understand why

I guess all of you folks who don't have a problem using another man's land for your dogs, wouldn't have a problem with others kids using your property to play on, build a fort, shoot bb guns etc. Those kids don't understand property lines and laws either.

Really the whole thing is stupid. Can we all agree on where the problem begins.

You don't care if your dog affects another's hunting trip and that makes it hard for hunters to care that you don't want your dog shot.

Keep the dogs confined to your land or the cycle continues
